Tec - the pins are not as good as I'd hoped. They are taking a long time to strengthen up again. I'm fine sitting down and can do anything with them from a sitting position - but once I stand up on them, they only carry me along for a dozen or so steps, then start to give out and I head for the nearest thing to sit on!

I have been able to get into and out of my car in the garage, so I might take it for a drive to-day, without going anywhere in particular. As long as I don't have to get out and walk anywhere, I would love to get out of the house. The motor turned over OK for me, but I like to give it a good run once a week and I haven't been in it since Christmas day!

Hi Berona,
Just spotted you before I logged off. That is a worry with your legs. Do please see your doctor, just to check there's nothing else going on beside the cramps - must be miserable for you, and tiring I should think.

If you are sure you can safely drive the car then that would be a good idea to get out of the house. You begin to get a bit stir crazy after a while don't you. The Duchess gets like that, as she doesn't go out much now.
That is what I was getting at when I said about keeping your driving licence. You keep your freedom and independance.
Anyway, if you do go, don't go too far, and be sure to take your mobile with you to contact someone if you have to pull up.

Well, I really am going to bed now - I may not get up 'till Spring has sprung.

Goodnight Berona - do take care,

Tec

Good morning from the frozen north.

Berona, do please go and see a doctor, we are all so worried for you.

Allan, i use the click on last reply twice method to get to the last page. It was confusing at first having to read the posts from the bottom of the page upwards, but I have got the hang of it now.

Hi all:-))

Sorry its so cold over there Linda:(

Our weather here today was perfect, 27C.
We decided to go to the pictures to see The Lovely Bones, which I think will probably give me nightmares tonight, it was a bit eerie also sad. It was based on a book of the same name, which I wouldn't mind reading.

I also haven't washed my car for quite some time, I clean the inside but because we cant use the hose to wash, I have to clean the outside of the car with a wet rag and car cleaning solution which can take about two hours to do!!

I hope those experiencing heavy snow at the moment take care and stay inside where its warm:-))

Ali, If you look in, we are all thinking about you:-))

Berona, I am also worried about you too, I hope you can get your leg cramps seen to, really soon.

27 sounds so lovely Carole. I am looking out onto a scene which looks so lovely, just like a Christmas card, but it is freezing cold.

Even though we have lot's of water in this country, we have a meter and have to pay for all we use. Some areas just pay a set water rate, so can use whatever they like without being penalised.
As we have to pay for ours, we have a series of three large water barrels which collect rain water from the roof. OH uses that to wash the car and I use it to water any plants and salad crops which I have growing in tubs. We never water anything growing in the soil in the garden, unless it is a newly panted thing. Most summers we have enough rain to keep the barrels topped up. In the ten years we have lived here, the barrels have only run out once.

Summer seems such a long way away now

Carolee Report 5 Jan 2010 11:48

Hi Linda
Most people here have water tanks, which work the same as yours.
We can also recycle our gray water, which can be used for the garden.
When we installed our swimming pool, we had to fill the pool using a water cartage truck(lorry) which we had to pay for ourselves. We can top up the pool, but not fill (from empty)

Your summer will be there before you know it:-)) Then we will be complaining we are freezing:-))))

I don't think your version of freezing will be quite the same as ours Carole!

I don't think that we would have much need for a pool in the garden here. We might get to use it on a couple of days in the year.

Carolee

Carolee Report 5 Jan 2010 12:03

You're probably right about comparisons of freezing, Linda:-))

We have solar heating on our pool, so can in the summer get the temp up to over 30 degrees which is like a nice warm bath. If we want to use the pool in the cooler weather we also have gas heating, which we will only use for a special occasion as it is very expensive to run.

Maybe if global warming kicks in, it will become normal to have a pool in this country. Some parts of the continent have pools as a norm and that is not so far away from us. Of course by then, I will be too old to bother

OH needs feeding, it is lunch time and he is frozen through because he has been sorting the garage out. He is quite capable of feeding himself, but I suppose that I had better show pity on him.
See you later.

Linda, Do you have indoor heated pools there?

Good Afternoon..........UK time that is.

Hi Linda - Hi Carole,

I do not usually come on here at this time, but am having a lazy day, doing nothing. This is because I have a nasty cold again - aching - shivering - sneezing - moaning - groaning. As you all know, men really suffer when they have a cold.......so I shall not let the side down - I shall make the most of it - moan for England - a complete martyr to my grave condition.

No sympathy please - I'm not used to it.

Carole......Barging in on your conversation with Linda . There are indoor swimming pools here, usually the trappings of the wealthy, with big houses. There is a house up on the mountain here that has a heated indoor pool - absolutely gorgeous - the house was sold two years ago for £1.2 million - or $2.4 million Aussie .
There are of course more modest houses with indoor pools. Outdoor pools are really a waste of time in our climate, and would get very little use.

Linda....Have you made a snowman yet?

I am going to spend the rest of the day working on my tree - finding people I never knew I had - hopefully.

I am off to my bed, enjoy your day - if you can:-))

You poor poor man, let me fuss and look after you.. Believe that just for a few seconds anyway Tec.

We have loads more snow and even with the heating on full the house is very cold. OH was wanting to go out to buy some wood for a project, but the roads are too bad, so he is mooching around annoying me.

Send me the photo of you standing by the snowman you have made Tec, holding a copy of today's paper to prove the date. Only then will I go out and make a snowman.

Carole as Tec said only the very rich would have a private indoor pool here. There are a few houses in the south with outdoor pools, but I don't think they will get much use given our climate.

We do have the heated indoor municipal pools of course for when we want to go swimming. Most towns have one.

I am happy to work on my tree as well Tec, i am filling in lot's of 1911 census stuff. Don't forget my offer if you need any look ups.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 5 Jan 2010 14:30

Hi Linda,
I can't believe you would be so heartless as to send a sick man out there to build a snowman.......can I do it in about June maybe?

Taking advantage of your generosity - I would be extremely grateful if you could do a lookup on 1911 C for someone I am curious about.
Will pm the details,

Thanks
Tec
