Ah Tec....Linda's been doing some research for you hasn't she. Our lass broke down a massive brick wall for me and gave me the know-how to knock down another one.

Linda is a veritable genius - she finds people I never knew I had,

They can run - but they can't hide from her.

It's great when you get help like that Tec.

Most of us NZ ders help each other out as our history is pretty appalling. They did not have to register births here until 1848 and then it is very hit and miss - my grandfather's siblings all recorded but not him - he was born out in the sticks so they didn't bother to register him. The Maori's are even worse off as they didn't have to register till 1912 and unless you are descended from a dignatory or chief it is very difficult for them.

I have much better strike rate in the UK with all my ancestry from there, mainly because they stayed in the one area.

Lot's of my mothers side were Methodists Perse, they were supposed to attend the C of E church on Sundays and have the children baptised there, but they were a law until themselves so often didn't comply with the rules

Linda,
Thomas was eccentric apparently - just like him to hide.

Perse - I had a lady from NZ enquiring about one of my ancestors, but there was no connection. She was trying to trace her Gt. grandfather who sailed from Liverpool around 1900 - I tried to help her but she knew very little to go on.

The updates on Ancestry have made records even easier to find. Kent and London records are wonderful.

Yes sue, but this is Wales and I haven't got a clue where anywhere is and they all have the same names

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 7 Jan 2010 21:55

Linda............
Nobody in Wales knows where anywhere is either - when the English come here they get terribly lost - although all the road signs are in English and Welsh.

Sorry been out of the room:

Yes Sue I have the Kent grave sites and have a cousin over there and have ended up with bucket loads of information.

Tec - I have just been talking with OH (we do that from time to time) he had told me the other day that his mother's cousin's wife had died. The cousin was a researcher here on calves being born as twins. He and his wife have two sets of identical twins and his wife studied fleas on birds (of all things) and she is the daughter of Clough Williams-Ellis,

He came to NZ and was very critical of the NZ architecture and our then Minister of Works Bob Semple (this would be in the 1930s) called Williams-Ellis a snivelling snufflebuster.

Just thort you might like that one.

My mother came from a mixture of Methodists and Presbyterians - but they too looked like they pleased themselves.
My Great Grandfather was killed on a pedestrian crossing whilst going to church - a Minister from another church bowled him over - he was running late for his sermon.

Perse,
I do hope that Minister didn't knock your Gt. Grandfather down because he belonged to a different church - poor man.

Clough Williams Ellis's Italianate Village at Portmeirion is about 40 miles from me. It is very interesting, - my nephew was married there last year

Have you been there? if not try to google it

Hi everyone! All this talk of temperatures going below zero! Mind you - in winter here, our temps do go down sometimes to -2 or -4 overnight (coldest), but usually they rise to at least 15 or more later in the day. Right now, I can't imagine that. No sign of rain here yet, but the sky is covered in cloud. Forecast is for showers - but nothing yet.
