Perse,

They do say that if you can remember the 60s, you weren't there - can't imagine what they mean:))

I know what you mean about growing up when you did. There was so much more freedom for kids when I grew up - because there weren't the dangers there are now, real or perceived.
As I've said on here before, from the age of ten I could catch a train into London and wander about all day on my own. You wouldn't dream of allowing a ten year old boy to do that now.
We also as teenagers were not exposed to drug abuse as they are now.

Just thought that I would post the following.

It was sent to me by my daughter

Senior health care solution--according to Maxine

Senior Health Care Solution

So you're a senior citizen and the government says no health care for you, what do you do?
Our plan gives anyone 65 years or older a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 federal politicans and 2 state politicans. Of Course, this means you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head, and all the health care you need! New teeth, no problem. Need glasses, great. New hip, knees, kidney, lungs, heart? All covered.
(And your kids can come and visit you as often as they do now).
And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you that you are too old and don’t deserve free health care. Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income taxes anymore.
IS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY OR WHAT?!

Allan

I know what you mean Allan - a lot of my generation ended up being high flyers and quite a few of them crashed. We took the property route and have a few rental properties - now there is talk of introducing a new tax to hit us. For some that would be really hard - as they have negative gearing etc and would not be able to pay it and end up with mortagee sales etc.
We used caution and it has paid off - but we also were frugal and whilst we gave our kids a private education for a few years - we had threadbare carpet and went without in other areas.

Terminal tax - is the amount you owe when you do your tax return in June or July depending on type of income and you have not paid enough tax on your earnings - you don't have to pay it there and then but it must be paid by Feb 7th following year. Then you have to project your earnings on what you had last year and pay three instalments of provisional tax Aug, Jan and then this May. Then if you didn't earn that much you get a refund and you go back on the merry-go-round all over again.

Our gst is 12.5% and there is talk of increasing that as well - but it will hit the have nots more - because they have no savings - don't earn enough. They live from day to day. Where is the higher income brackets will not spend all theirs so not hit as hard. If you understand me?

Persey (who gets confused easily - grrrh Allan - you are a sweetie)

We have a prisoner here in NZ - he escaped from jail - went on a rampage and killed an innocent person because he could. The police had to shoot him to apprehend him (he was hoping to get killed) the shot damaged his leg - it was amputated and he has been given an artificial limb (all at the tax payers expense). Soon as he could get around again he managed to reconstruct a weapon from a trolley and assaulted another inmate with it.

Berona, Enjoy your morning coffee called tea , do let me know what you ended up with.

Allan - That is The Ultimate Solution, and thekids would love it, as they get to inherit earlier............brilliant idea.

Perse...........It's too late at night for me to digest all that tax info - the Inland Revenue here just mug me annually, and take it at source.

Persey, it does seem to be a topsy turvy world.

The latest thing in Australia has been for the Pollies to throw their hands in the air and say that by 2030 two thirds of the population will be pensioners (don' quote me on the actual date, but you get my drift) and how are we going to afford all the associated medical costs of an aging population.

Hello!! Governments have known about this potential problem for years, unless all the Census information is not taken seriously.

Planning for this should have taken place years ago.

I also think that some problems transcend party lines and will occur whatever party is in power. Why not work on these problemd together so that successive governments of whatever persuasion know that they have the full support of other parties

You know how they do these pictures of people that have look alikes.

Even Coro's Audrey was referred to as Camilla on the show itself.

I got an e-mail with Kevin Rudd and the (lookalike) Milky Bar Kid sent to me.

Oh it's coffee for me Tec. I was a great tea-drinker (of course, married to a Pom!), although I could drink coffee with milk and sugar too. However, when I first began to gain weight, I decided to cut out the milk and sugar. I just couldn't drink the tea that way, but I was able to adjust to drinking coffee straight, so that's what it's been ever since.

Think I will go and have a plunger coffee (I have black no accoutrements) - put the kettle on ages ago - thank goodness they switch themselves off - not like when I was young eh Tec.

CC: Just to confuse you - New Zealand's standard time is 12 hours ahead of UK, but they have daylight saving - so for now, they are 13 hours ahead of you.

Queendland, NSW Victoria and Tasmania's standard time is 10 hours ahead of UK - but we too, have daylight saving - so we are at present 11 hours ahead of you. (at least, I think we all have daylight saving - I might be corrected on that. I can only vouch for NSW).

Western Australia's standard time is 8 hours ahead of UK. However, they DON'T have daylight saving - so they are 8 hours ahead of you, and three hours behind those of us on the Eastern side of Australia.

It all changes again when we come off Daylight Saving and you go onto it!
Have I explained it clearly? I'm sure it's as clear as MUD!!

Carole has been in the men's room -

So you keep all your jokes as well Carole - I leave them in my e-mails and then I can't find the right one when I want it. The darn thing finds all sorts in its search tho.

I was only going to look Berona and not say anything (like you) but I could not resist when Tony said that. Sometimes I don't know what comes over me.
