Berona

Berona Report 6 Feb 2010 21:35

No, I don't need to water the pots - only four under the eaves. A good downpour might have saved even that. However, my two front gardens are pathetically short of moisture. Luckily they have geraniums in one and roses in the other - both hardy types, but I have not been able to stand there watering them since before Christmas - and they face the sun for most of the day. We still have water restrictions allowing us only to stand with a trigger nozzled hose, before 10am and after 4pm. I still can't stand for very long, so the gardens have to rely on what water falls on the front of them, seeping through to the back.
My n.d. neighbour waters her half of the rose garden. Even though I provided all the roses initially and I watered the garden on weekdays, and she did it on weekends. However, since we finally had to agree to her having legal action taken against her, she no longer speaks to any of us - hence the watering of 'her half' of the garden! - but that's another story.

Berona,
My neighbour has lots of pots in her front garden, facing South, so getting the full sun. She fills plastic lemonde bottles with water, half screws the top back on so that water seeps out, then sticks them upside down in her big pots so that they stay moist - seems to work.

I'm in a villa/townhouse complex of 14 and I am on the executive committee of the Owners Corporation - five of us elected to take care of everything that comes up so that we don't have to call meetings in between each AGM (I might add that some of them have no interest in what happens!). This neighbour hadn't paid her quarterly fees and other charges for so long that we just had to take action when we found out that she is secretly starting a business (in opposition to her employer, no less!) - that's where the money has been going, leaving our administration fund short!

She now leaves notes in the mailboxes, calling us 'the enemy' and saying that we have left her to 'starve'. She still doesn't know that we know about her registering a business!

It's interesting, living here. We eventually meet 'all types'!!

Tecwyn Report 6 Feb 2010 22:05

It's a pity your neighbour is like that Berona, but as you say, it takes all types. We are fortunate with our neighbours in many ways. Nobody is unpleasant.
The elderly lady next door is the village gossip - what she doesn't know, she invents, but everyone knows about her so everything is taken with a pinch of salt.
I think she's completely barking, and I hope she invents the most lurid tales about me.
I have had one or two strange looks lately - I'd love to know what I have been up to - might be exciting!

Tec - My uncle did that when he started his chicken farm. He was still living in the city and working there weekdays, then building his farm house at the weekend. He would take his FIL with him and the older man dug and planted the veggie gardens. They would then fill up beer bottles (the large ones which were the only kind in those days), and push them in - thus keeping the plants watered during the week. By the time the house was finished and they moved into it - they had a flourishing veggie garden!

I think every area has one of those 'gossips', Tec. I had one living two houses from me for about 35 years. She not only knew everything about everybody, but she got it all mixed up - so some of the stories she told were really interesting - although probably not true.

My children grew up knowing this and at one time, my eldest son had finished up at the job where he did his apprenticeship and had two weeks off before starting at another place. She didn't miss a trick - noticed that he was at home so made a B-line for him and asked questions. When she asked if he was on the dole, he answered 'yes' (and he wasn't), then she prodded further to ask how he could live on that and he said "it's enough to keep my habit up". I nearly fainted when he told me what he said!! He did it 'to give her something to talk about'.

Hell again to all

After my last post I was just c & p something for the Men only thread when bang!....a bl**dy power cut!

Onlt to be expected I supppose. We finally had some rain after 75 days without. That would have caused some arcing with the build up of dust on the power poles causing pole-top fires!

In the bush areas it is a toss up which has caused more bush fires: lightning strikes or power pole fires.

At least now Western Power do acknowledge that their infrastructure is to blame. In previous years, particularly if there has been a loss of life they have always denied responsibility

Morning all from me where it is nearly lunch time.

Our painter is not one to gossip - but they seem to know everyone in the street mainly because they get approached to paint outside and in of quite a lot of the houses.
I have very quiet Sri Lankans on one side of me - and Japanese on the other side of me - both rent their places. Across the road a young very attractive Phillipino woman lives - have watched her four children grow up she was married to an Irish man (Paddy died quite sometime ago) Up the road a bit further are a Chinese family - he is an electrician and she up until two weeks ago ran an 'All sorts of things"shop in the village and she is also very good with all sorts of information but it is all reliable.
We have a Canadian woman up the hill and another one down the bottom of the street. So we are a bit of a league of nations.

That's very funny Berona, your son obviously has a wicked sense of humour, like me.
This lady also quizzes everyone for info, and is quite good at it. People not clued up to her often fall for it.
When I first came here I was quickly warned. She kept on and on about she was sure she'd seen me before. So one day I said with a straight face
"Oh probably on Crime Watch, but that's all behind me now" her face was a picture.
Crime Watch is a TV programme about wanted and dangerous criminals.

I like to wind her up, it's so easy

Berona,
That's a very strange thread that's gone up - I do hope that hasn't upset you, whatever the mistake is.

Berona Report 6 Feb 2010 22:55

Oops!! I just found a thread on page 1, offering me sympathy on the loss of my husband! That happened in 1991! Have I said something that has given the wrong impression?

Persephone

Persephone Report 6 Feb 2010 22:56

That is very strange - I had to go out and come back - my screen has taken to jumping around and then saw that other thread and did a double take.
Looks like someone has been misreading something - because there is only one Berona!!!!!! No one else even comes close.

You've not said anything on this thread that could be misunderstood Berona - check on other threads that you've posted on - maybe someone has their wires crossed.

Apparently it was meant for a Rona. Karen has now deleted the thread.

Hi Tec

We have been having Rugby Sevens in full throw here all weekend. NZ got beaten by Samoa so did not even make the finals which is unheard of. Wellington has a whale of a time - everyone gets dressed up in fancy dress of some sort and they really enjoy themselves. My daughter and SIL generally go - but he has been up country so they may have missed it.

Easy mistake I suppose, but a bit jaw dropping.

Sympathy to Rona, although I don't know the lady concerned.

Glad it got nipped in the bud Berona. How awful and my sympathies to Rona - I think I have seen her name but have not had the pleasure of talking to her.
OH's turn on puta so my stay very short.

Hi Perse,

Your neighbourhood sounds very cosmopolitan, and a good mix of cultures.

Sorry to hear NZ got beaten by Samoa - bit of a shock that.

Wales was beaten by England 30-17
oh well - just so long as we don't get beaten by the French
