Good morning/evening, Tec and everyone else. Hope you and the Duchess are well.

The weather sounds horrendous for both you and Linda. I would be curling up in a ball and hibernating for the winter:-))

I had a really good day yesterday. We went to the markets and I bought an old cane table in perfect condition for the equivalent of 5 pound. It only needed a good dusting. It'll look good on the front verandah. I also bought some lovely plants. And now wait for the big announcement.
I BOUGHT NEW CUSHIONS. Yes I found exactly what I wanted in a large manchester store in town. They are just perfect:-)) Of course OH made the comment that he didn't understand why I would want to buy an old cane table but then insist on throwing out old cushions and buying new ones. He's long suffering:-))

Perse, I am reading Fever on the Bone at the moment. It's excellent. I also like Stephen King as does my son. He has a new book out at the moment - not my son Stephen King:-)

No Tec I didn't buy any books but OH did buy a Spiderman for one of the grandsons who has recently discovered him. Flowers? I've got petunias, geraniums, lavender, the last of the pansies, marguerite daisies, marigolds. Winter doesn't last forever, Tec - it just seems that way.

It is raining here so the washing is waiting to go out in the Shelter Shed area. I was wondering why the alarm was going on the machine this morning and this sign was flashing F17 - I thought what is an F 17 was going to get the hand book out and then realised I had set everything into action and forgot to turn the tap on. Duh!!! What a dunderhead.

Sounds like you had a very good day yesterday. The cane table sounds good. The old bamboo ones fetch good money at sales and auctions here. I attend a local mnthly auction here. Have had some good bargains over the years.
I always look for old original water cour paintings, though we are running out of wall space. Found two last year, by a known pre-war Japanese artist. Paid £60 for them, The frames were tatty, so had them re-framed.
They were valued recently by a proffessional valuer at £600 - so that was a good buy.

Glad you found cushions, even though I teased you about it - I know these things matter to a lady.

I read Stewart Or is it Stuart Pawson - about a Yorkshire detective and he has lots of funny bits in amongst the rest of the gore.

Not into Stephen King but I remember really enjoy the novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawdank Redemption and the movie adaptation of it was spot on.

Perse - I like most UK detective stories. Stephen King is a love or hate author. I know people who eagerly await his stories and some who don't even consider them. Shawshank Redemption is a great story and movie. I also like Dean Koontz.

Tec, I love old china and I've had some good buys. Not so much now as some people sell their old bits and pieces at high prices. I have a couple of beautiful old teapots that I bought for a few dollars each. I saw one of them in an antique shop selling for about $70. I wouldn't have paid that but I do think I got a bargain. Sometimes I'll get out my cups and saucers and have an old fashioned afternoon tea with friends. I love using my china and I know my friends enjoy it too. We move too fast these days to have leisurely teas but it's nice now and then.

I refuse to drink out of mugs, as is the fashion, being old fashioned we still drink out of bone china cups and saucers

Got lots of old china here, much of it no longer used, my sister has has quite a bit as she like it

There is a bone china teaset here that was a wedding present 47 yrs ago from OHs grandmother. It's never been used, wrapped in tissue paper, stored in a box.........shame really

Tec, I have my mother's Royal Doulton dinner set. She packed it up and gave it to me when my father passed away. I have nowhere to display it except for the teapot and coffeepot. It's a full setting for 8 people with tea and coffee cups and saucers, a gravy boat and serving platter. I love it but doubt it will be used often if ever.

and over 80 pieces, stacks of plates, tureens, etc etc

Sue, It's a great shame all this stuff never sees the light of day, but we live differently now, and the occassions when you can drag it all out are very few and far between.
