I wondered about the mess in the bread maker as well.

one day when I'm awake, I will plaque you for info about making jam in micro wave. Never thought of that.

I bought some frozen mixed berries this year to make jam, wasn't bad, but could be better.

Tec,

I must admit that I have never heard of making jam in the breadmaker before. I don't think that I would like to clean up afterwards

Thank you Linda,

I shall study them with interest - you are very kind - I didn't mean for you to trouble with it tonight - thanks again.

The wind is blowing a gale here again tonight - roaring past the windows, and rumbling down the chimney.

I think I will rumble off to bed and hide under the duvet,

So goodnight antipodean friends,
and goodnight those friends in the frozen north

Goodnight,
Tec

Welcome Joy. Nice to see you posting here. We are quite a mixture and show up at any time, 24/7!

Allan - I wasn't thinking of YOUR safety. I suddenly had a vision of Jack the Ripper.

Tec - you didn't tell me you had started using the breadmaker. Where's my wholegrain loaf?

Good night from me Berona, sorry I am going just as you arrive, but it is 11.35pm here,so time all good people were in their beds. Besides the heating has switched off,so it is getting cold

Berona

Berona Report 28 Nov 2009 23:38

Good night, sleep well all those who are retiring for the night. Stay warm.

I must leave now. I have a few things to do and have a little more energy to-day as it's not quite as hot as it has been. It is still forecast for 28, but that's better than 38! Talk to you all later.

Word Perfect:

Isn't that some sort of computer program?
No Allan is a very droll troll and he keeps leaving his raincoat lying around. I got fed up with it and it has been taken away in my bucket. I am Little Bo Peep because we have all the sheep. So sorry folks if I was a vision of a few words this morning the call of the footlights beckoned me.

Berona, you seem to be stage struck.

I suppose you will be demanding all the perks now, your own personal dressing room, complete with flunkies to tend to your every need. Expensive bottled water to give to your plants, a servant standing over you to fan you when you feel warm.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Nov 2009 16:51

What a day. The rain poured down all night,at least it was the couple of times I woke up. It has never stopped today. We drove to mums house today to check it out and lots of the fields we passed were flooded.
The river through the town has overflowed onto the flood plains. There is bound to be lots of flooding downstream in York and Selby.

I have turned the heating up, closed all the curtains and am turning my thoughts to comfort food.

It rained here all night too, and the wind was horrendous coming off the mountain, as against off the sea. This is because the wind has changed direction, now from the North East, which means it's very cold. Someone will doubtless find us frozen to death, when they come for a free weekend by the sea in the Spring. However it was sunny all day. There is still snow on the mountain.

The cold water supply has been restored to the bathroom - which means we can now flush the loo, instead carrying buckets of water up the stairs all day - I am aware that posh people have more than one loo, usually downstairs - we are however, not posh people. Hopefully hot water will be restored tomorrow when I can get to a DIY shop to get the part I want. As I live in a remote area, the part I want will probably arrive around Good Friday. By which time we will likely smell so badly that any visitors won't want to stay.

Linda - On BBC Country Tracks this morning they did a very interesting tour in a vintage car, of Herriot Country, taking in various points around the Dales, including the James Herriot Centre at Thirsk. Also the house from where Alf Wight practised - all very interesting.

Also the other day I watched a short feature on the Curzon Cinema at Clevedon. Now run by a group of people as a registered charity. It is a listed building because of the unique interior. The projection room was fascinating. They now have a digital projector, the films arrive on a hard disk, as against the old 35mm reels, although they still run them too.

Having bored the entire world rigid, I shall now go away, and continue my nervous breakdown about my bathroom.

Hello people,
My subscription expires in a couple of days and I will not be renewing.
My reason for not renewing is personal.
A month or so ago I got caught up in a thread where I did not belong. It was a cosy little thread, obviously open only to a select few.
Following that, I got caught up in a cat fight between Barbara (Barbra) and Linda (in Herriot country).
Linda abused me publicly on this board, and said I had no guts (her word) because I did not reply to her PM. I immediately PM’d her, and she has returned the favour. She has opened my message and has not had the decency to reply.
Since then she has been gaily posting on this thread, while I have not.
The text of my PM is in my following post.
As for GR, I am sick of the whole thing. I am sorry I ever joined, as I have wasted hours trying to build a tree and dealing with hot matches that aren’t.
The only enjoyment I have had is some light hearted chatter here, and some deeper contributions to the depression/anxiety thread on the general board.
That said, I am unlikely to open any messages from GR. There are people I still trust, but I have been deeply hurt by personal remarks so I will do my usual thing, which is to run away from confrontation, like the coward I am.

Excuse me while I bypass you Colin - I am not being rude just want to tell Tec that whilst we have two loos - we are definitely not posh - our loo is actually under our bed - our bedroom has this split level and that is the way the house was when we bought it. It was also full of damned arches through the lounge to the kitchen and dining area (this is open plan) 7 arches in total - a product of the seventies along with an orange bench top. All of which arenow removed.
I don''t think it will be long now before NZ is back into full swing with the rugby having beaten the French - it is not just one of our players that is one-eyed quite a lot of the population are that way as well. Must've hurt but having an eye gouged.

I didn't see Berona in the Panto but I will be over there on the boards again shortly Linda. Though I did disgrace myself got tangled in the curtain and ended up in the orchestra pit.

Colin - sorry you are not staying mate - I still haven't sorted out my grandmother's forbears for you to have a look at - I needed to contact my cousin in Bayswater Melbourne first and she is not computer literate so it takes that much longer to get motivated. I do wish you all the best in whatever you get upto. Fondest the Godess.

Colin, I'm sincerely sorry that you feel this way. We have enjoyed your posts and your humour. It is your decision as to whether you renew or not but if you decide to renew you are welcome to continue to post on here. If you don't renew then we will miss you - you have become a friend and it's a shame that we may not "speak" to you again. Best wishes to you and your OH.

Good Morning Perse,

Isn't a loo under the bed called a "potty"
and do you have one of those georgeous Victorian Chamber Pots with ornate flower patterns inside and out?

Perse,

I don't know what the highest accolade is that can be bestowed on a New Zealander - but your boys in the rugby team deserve one each.

Not that I have anything against the French you understand.
