Allan,
Did you get any further with your research into the Coach Trimmers? I found that very interesting, and looked at a couple if the sites CC found on the subject.

Tec

Allan

Allan Report 22 Feb 2010 22:56

Tec no further Advanced at the moment. I haven't done much more research into it, although I did check out on e of the Guilds' site, but there were no records.

I will have to get back onto it now that I have a little more time and the local Family History Society has reopened after the Christmas Break.

I don't yet have a subscription to Ancestry

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Feb 2010 23:08

That's the problem I have, is finding the time for serious research.

I joined Ancestry a few weeks ago, and am sorry I didn't do it long ago. Found it enormously helpful, and easy to use.
It's very useful having access to the Census's, and I've discovered a lot.

Tec

Allan

Allan Report 22 Feb 2010 23:18

Tec I can access Ancestry at the FHS but weighing up the costs $25.00 for annual membership + .$1.00 per 1/2 hour computer session and I usually spend about three hours on the computer, it would almost cover the costs.

There are also a couple of organisations I belong to which I am considering leaving and the subs to those could also be used!

I must go now. Going to turn on my Aircon. The humidity is really starting to creep in here.
Tec - your heat will be going off soon - so don't be long out of bed! Goodnight to you and the duchess.

Allan - I don't really think you should do any digging to-day if your weather is like ours. You and your OH should relax and do very little - it will make me feel that I'm not so lazy if I know others are doing the same as I am!
Enjoy your day.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Feb 2010 23:28

I don't have an FHS anywhere near me, but decided to bite the bullet on cost and go for it - I don't spend money on anything other personal interest, so thought I might as well.

Well it's bed time again,
so enjoy your day Allan and everyone Down Under,
sleep well Up Top,

Hi to you Diane if you're looking in, and Perse mind how you go with that big boot........

Goodnight

Good morning everyone, a sunny but crisp day here today.

The wheel fell of the Dyson vacuum cleaner again yesterday,so OH gets his wish for a new one. We looked at them in a shop and then scoured the Dyson website comparing all of the models before we decided which one we wanted. I then searched for the cheapest price on line. If it is not too far from the local shop price we just get it there to support the local economy, but in this case they don't have the model we want. There were a few places which shared the lowest price, surprisingly one of them was Argos (a catalogue store to be found in most towns). Not only that, they actually have an offer where if you buy selected models, they give you a £50 gift voucher as well. The offer ends today, so that was some what fortuitous. I have reserved one and will go to collect it today. That should keep OH happy, but I must admit that he is the one who does the hoovering.

Berona

Berona Report 23 Feb 2010 10:30

Lucky you - having an OH who uses the cleaner! My OH was good, but he never did that job! I have a Dyson and I can't fault it - except that my DIL has a later model with turbo brush and she brings it occasionally and runs over my rugs and carpet and it does make a difference as far as the cat fur is concerned! Lucky you decided to look for a new one now and got a good deal.

You calling it 'hoovering' reminded me of the 'bloomers' mentioned earlier (our different meanings for things). We only use the word 'Hoover' as a brand name. We refer to the process as 'vacuum cleaning' or 'vacuuming'.
While you have been buying your new cleaner, I have been checking out my "trousers/slacks" for size and condition. Is that better? Notice I didn't say 'pants'!!!

Persephone Report 23 Feb 2010 10:46

Hello all,

Not stopping just popped in to say hello - I guess I am a bit like your Dyson, Linda. I feel like one of my wheels has fallen off. In moonboot for another four weeks and then another checkup. I am not good at this lark at all - absolutely hopeless on crutches. Got a trifle miffed when I saw a young woman swinging away on her crutches with her moonboot on. It is so heavy and there is no way I can swing and hop like her - bit like the dog that used to be in that program "The Dukes Of Hazzard" move two paces and then lie on the ground.

Ouch - hit in the mouth with a hockey ball - how awful - my mum used to go on about how dangerous it was and would not let me play and got upset when my eldest liked the game. My mother saw a girl get killed by a whack with a hockey stick when she was at school.

Only read last three pages but seeing this was top of page one could not resist a turn.

Well back to the director's couch.

Mind how you go all, Berona I know you will be okay as a permanent 39.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ waves to Janet.
We had sunshine earlier, and blue skies. Now all changed to lead grey sky, a freezing wind coming off the mountain from the east. The sheep are huddled on the leeward side of the stone walls on the mountain. All this means one thing........snow.
Unfortunately, I have to go off on a trek to the Health Centre for a warfarin blood test
Like your OH Linda, I am in charge of hoovering here, whizzing round the floors like a thing possessed, terrorising the dog. Sounds like you had a good deal on the Dyson. We buy quite a lot of things from Argos. We don't have a store anywhere near, but order on line, and they are very good with home delivery. I have to pay of course, but it would cost me more in petrol to get to the nearest store, so well worth it.
Hi Perse - Nice to see you here - I have been thinking of you. Why don't you get your OH to fit wheels to your big boot, then you could kind of scoot along. A roller skate might do, or a skate board.
Just a nutty idea, but it might work.
CC.......as Sue said, your posts are always interesting and I like your humour and take on life - keep it coming.
Oh well, off to face the elements - I may not be seen again 'till Spring.
LindainHerriotCountry Report 23 Feb 2010 16:35
Good to see you Perse. If I were you, I would ignore Tec's suggestion about the roller skate, that sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
I bought the Dyson, but when I asked about the £50 voucher, they said that I needed the code generated by my computer. This presumably would be the one which should have appeared when I clicked on the offer link, but all I kept getting was a white screen.
Being ever so helpful the woman on the till said that they would keep it for me until Saturday,so that I could come back with the code. Now bearing in mind that my nearest store didn't have it in stock, so I had driven a longer distance, you may gather that this didn't go down all that well with me. I very politely explained to them that I had no intention of coming back, especially as the problem was with their website not me, so they could sort it out in store.
A nice manager was summoned and to her credit, she did sort it out and I got my voucher. Good job, I wouldn't listen to the woman on the till and her side kick, who were both adamant that there was nothing they could do.
Anyway OH is now the proud owner of a new Dyson, it nearly sucked the rug from the floor when we tried it out.
Berona, I am just like you, I have clothes of several different sizes, all waiting until I lose weight. Sighs at the remembrance of my once sylph like figure.
Good morning/evening everyone - hope you are all well.
I put up a message on the FTF from us all sending our love and continued best wishes to Ali and her family and Libby has thanked us. She said she sent our message onto Ali by texting her on her mobile so she knows we are all thinking of her and her family. Although I feel sad that Ali is in hospital and so obviously very ill I feel good that we are able to continue showing her our support and I hope it helps in some small way.
The weather was much cooler yesterday and promises to be cooler again today. The continued heat is so draining and leaves me with little energy to do very much at all. Thank goodness for air conditioning.
Lovely to see you Perse:-))
Berona Report 23 Feb 2010 21:09
Good evening/morning everyone! Overcast here at the moment. Yesterday was an improvement on Monday, although this woose hibernated all day with the aircon eating up the electricity, so I didn't feel uncomfortable. I had a door-knocker offering to send a person (courtesy of the government) to tell me how to conserve energy in the home. Well, we all know what they would suggest, don't we? I declined the offer. I have made studies of this myself and I am quite satisfied the way I use all the energy in my home - and I am a little tired of these strangers coming into the home! First, the changing of all the light bulbs, then the insullation and now the energy-saving! Isn't it enough that we have strangers entering our homes when we need repairs, deliveries?
Tecwyn
Tecwyn Report 23 Feb 2010 21:27
GoodMorning Sue, and Berona,
Sue, That was a very good and thoughtful idea to put a message for Ali on FTF, and good that Libby can convey our support to Ali via text message. I too hope it will help Ali in some way to know her friends are still here, thinking of her, and her family.
Hope the weather is cooler for you today, and less humidity.
Berona, This procession of people offering advice re energy saving seems to be a world wide phenomena. We too get them, the latest lot are promoting solar panel hot water systems. My neighbour had this installed last year at a cost of £8,000 ($16,000) that would take years and years to recoup. I think I will stay with my existing system, that is expensive enough.
Hello Berona. I also hate strangers tramping throught the house. When we had our bathroom renovated we had 5 big noisy men making a row and a load of mess most of the 1st day. The kitchen was much better with only a day and a half of work including a plumber and electrician. It's a great way to sort out your kitchen cupboards. I threw out an amazing load of stuff.
Thanks Sue for putting that post up on FTF on our behalf. I'm sure Libby will pass it on and hope that Ali gets some comfort from it.
Tec - many people here have the solar system, but I'm surprised that it exists in countries such as yours, given the length of your seasons.
SueMaid
SueMaid Report 23 Feb 2010 21:35
Hello Tec. We had a people accosting us in our local shopping centres with free energy saving light bulbs. They sent a young man to change all our old light bulbs but I hated them in the lamps in the lounge room as you could see them. It spoiled the look of the lamps so I took them out and put the old ones back. The new bulbs are quite expensive to buy although they do last longer. We've also had numerous flyers in the post suggesting that we get solar energy, water tanks etc. We can I believe get rebates on these. New houses must have a water tank and a diversion for "grey water" to use on the garden. We have a small water tank that is used for the garden connected to our air conditioner.
I will continue to check Libby's thread on FTF and will send a message from us all just to let Alison know we are thinking of her.
Sue xx
