Sorry Carole - I forgot to ask how you are.....slaps wrist:-)

Alan I don't know how to explain how I do it. My homepage is Yahoo7 so I don't know if its different for different homepages. I have a tab saying Genes Reunited - Family History and Family... Next to that is a tab. When I click onto that it opens a new page so I just go to GR again and I get the GR home page. Clear as mud I know:-)

Sue, that could be it!

my home page is actually my server's home page (iinet)

I have noticed that when CC has given me some threads to follow, sometime I only get taken to the Home page of the site I need, not to the actual thread.

And I am then requested to sign in with my password, which of course I can't do as I am not a member of those sites

Good afternoon -

Seems I missed out on the hugs (((((((( )))))))))) -
I am certainly thankful that I knew Ali - and I will miss her loving humourous ways.

And today I have learnt that I can use the add button - I thought that was just for adding to your own posts. Am an expert (smart ar**e) on excel spreadsheeting and accounting packages but on here I continually learn new ways of doing things. Mind you GR keeps on changing things as well.
That advanced search works for peoples names that are not too long - but I can't track down one that has stars and bits in it and is longer. I am looking to you Linda on advice for that one.
Also ever since I have upgraded my google internet explorer my reply box starts to jump round when I am typing after I have done a couple of paragraphs so I ride blind and then check by scrolling the side arrow on the reply to check for daft errors.
I don't know about an overlocker but reckon I could do with a buttonholer on here to make it sit still. Also I have never previewed so much before - real nuisance.

Perse (who is not on a skate board, but would happily ride around on Montgomery) xxx

Hi all, just wanted to pop in and let you know you are all in my thoughts . . . Ali will be missed by you all . . a real character, with a big heart.

Thinking about her hubby and sons . . and the extended family as well

It's four months now since we lost our Lew and I still miss her every day . . . but she left me with lots of memories to keep my grin gear working.

I dinny realise how much assistance Lew gave to peeps on the TTF board, I am custodian of her research on here till a family member is ready to take it over and her mail box is forever getting requests for more assistance.

Stay safe and give the grin gear a good nudge

:) Laurie xo

Thank you Laurie. Yes, most of us knew Lewella and the wonderful help she gave to many...Even though we all knew in our hearts that Alison's battle was uphill, her own attitude was so amazing that we, too, had high hopes of miracles. Her approach was very infectious.

Hi, Persey - you didn't miss out on the hugs. The one Tec sent was a group hug so that means you too. Hope you are hobbling better.

Laurie - how kind of you to visit us on here. All feeling very sad but so grateful to have known such a person - Ali was an inspiration to us all.

I can't believe Lew has been gone for 4 months. Another person who left too soon. We can honour their memories by grabbing life with both hands and enjoying it to the full.

Come back and visit, Laurie. You are very welcome.

Back to you, Tec. So sorry I have taken so long, but things ARE a bit different to-day, aren't they?

That poem describes me to a 'T' - particularly the part about "might come in handy at a later date". That's me! Then, whenever I bite the bullet, and get ruthless, throwing out something I haven't used for many years - usually about a week later, a reason for wanting it suddenly arises!

I must take after my grandfather. He had tea-chests - FULL - (collected over years) of shoes which his adult daughters threw out - but which he actually thought they might want to wear at a later date! Fashion wasn't an issue as far as he could see - he was a very practical man!

My OH was the opposite - if something had not been used in the last three months - out it went! Daughter is the same and I have to hide things from her when she comes to help me with difficult housework - or I would lose them!

Berona Report 25 Feb 2010 06:42

Did anyone yet explain that an Overlocker is usually a special attachment on a sewing machine for specialised stitching? Sometimes, it is built into the machine - but that's as far as I can explain to whoever asked the question. I don't even own a machine and dislike using a needle and thread. I'm so happy that I can now "Iron-on" tape to change a hem, instead of sewing it! Buttons are my limit!

Carolee Report 25 Feb 2010 08:03

Berona..

An Overlocker is a type of sewing machine that Overlocks the edges of a garment, to stop the material from fraying. I have used one heaps of times as I used to work in a factory that made men's suits.
I have a sewing machine myself that can overlock and button hole, plus do lots of other fancy stitches.

Elizabeth Report 25 Feb 2010 08:38

Hello all~~~~~~~~~

I've grabbed all Ali's posts I'll use. Thanks for showing me how to find them. I took the funny ones and the ones where she talks about her family. I left the ones where she was sad or sick. I don't think the boys need them and this was her place to escape and sometimes hide from her illness. She won't want me putting that into their faces after she tried not to. Did that make sense???

It's been an odd day. My dad was told he has cancer as well. It's only small so not bad at the moment. I don't feel all that bad about him. He is nearly 80 and a heavy smoker. Seems I feel worse about Ali.

Heavens.....listen to me.....I'm starting to use you all as a sounding board now....lol...spooky.

We did good for Lew the other night in Toowoomba.

Good morning everyone.

I am glad that you managed to save Ali's posts Elizabeth (I am not sure if I should be calling you Elizabeth, or do you prefer Libby etc?, Let us know)

Anyway, sound away, that is what is great about this thread. We can talk about the things which are difficult and know that we will be supported. The next minute we are behaving like silly little children, we enjoy that too.

I am sorry to hear about your dad, I understand what you mean about the difference though. He has lived a full life, but Ali's was cut short and that is what seems so unfair.

I hope that your dad gets treatment which will give him a good few years yet. My mum died in September, she was 88. The friends I have on here were fantastic in helping me through it and still are.I had a bad day on Tuesday, because I went into town and Mothers Day adverts were plastered everywhere and that upset me. At my advanced age (shows bus pass) you would think that I would be able to cope with things like that. You don't though, when it comes to it, deep inside, you are a family group and it is the relationships which matter.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Feb 2010 09:41

Berona, your OH sounds just like mine. He is ruthless about throwing things out.I am not a hoarder either, but am not as bad as him. Now the children have left home, I have the wardrobes in the other bedrooms as well as my own. So I have lots of clothes arranged in sizes for when my diet works (some hope), but if I didn't have the room, I would just dispose of the ones which are too small.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 25 Feb 2010 09:55

Someone asked about searching for names with symbols in them (sorry I can't see who it was) have just used the advanced search and in Author, I copied and pasted a name which has numbers in and the search worked fine. I then tried it with a short name which has symbols and that worked as well.

The only problem I had was with a name which was long. Although the author box looks long, you can only put about 24ish characters in so the long names I was searching for would not fit in,so I couldn't search for them

There is probably a way around it, but I don't know how.
