Why not, Allan? I'm usually late with everything. Late on the uptake, late with the penny dropping, late starter, etc. - but I'm never late for an appointment!

I have a tiny little black spider walking over my screen and in spite of me flicking it, it escapes and shows up again somewhere else on the screen - so if I disappear suddenly, you'll know the spider has disappeared too - into the works!

Berona,
I just wrote a nice reply to your post - and it's vanished - whooshed - gone - vapourised
Where did it go?

Good Morning Allan,
Hope you are a bit cooler in the West today.

Tec

Good evening Allan,

OH just ate the last bagel for supper, so I had a pitta bread and I am glad to say that my filling survived. I know that I should abstain CC's account of diets struck a chord. We had a healthy chicken stir fry for dinner which is why I was hungry now.

I get used to dentists. I was hit in the mouth by a hockey ball and had two front teeth knocked out. This was when I was 28 I hasten to add and I was just watching not playing. I have a bridge with two false teeth,so that has had to be replaced several times over the years

Berona,
I was saying, before my post disappeared into the ether, that I used to visit Leadenhall Street often, as the P&O Shipping offices were there.

We could have gone for coffee had I known you were there.

Sue - you can relax now that the accountant is looking into it. When I was on a committee, we once had an accusation made against a former treasurer and luckily, a member of the club had his own firm of auditors and offered to do a free 'quick' audit. His report came back showing that no money was missing, but a couple of the totals of colums appeard to be 'mixed around' and the overall result was that he was a 'sloppy book-keeper'. Hopefully, your result will be something like this and you will be able to go ahead and put your new instructions into practice.

Tec - we used to go for a coffee twice a day by walking out of the office and down the street, crossing the road to a Coffee House. (Lyons?).
It would have been nice to have a coffee with you Tec - but I think you might have only been about 11 at that time and would have been at school!

" Evening Tec

No cooler here. In fact the weather is warming up. Storms are forecast for Wednesday but the temp is still forecast to be 37c so should be nice and sticky if the storms do happen!

Sue when my daughter was at Senior School she was in the School Band OH was making a new long dress for her as part of the uniform and had all but finished it when OH had to go into hospital. the dress still neede hemming and daughter was due to perform at a Band Competition.

I hemmed the dress with a few tacking stitches and then at the competition, when a couple came adrift I improvised with a stapler. One of the Senior Band members took one look and said "I bet you were in the Army"

From memory I fixed another three or four dresses that day.

I should hasten to add that they were all being worn at the time and that there were plenty of Adult chaperones.

Berona that would have been Lyons Corner House, and been in there many times.
I suppose you wouldn't want to be seen with an 11 yr old, but you could have passed as my big sister - or been arrested for kidnapping LOL

No Tec. This was a small coffee shop nestled in amongst other commercial buildings, but it had a well-known name. I worked in one of those tea-houses in Regent Street just before I returned home. It was boarded up on my next trip. I do remember the Corner Houses, though, and got quite a shock when I went again in 1989 and couldn't see the name Lyons anywhere. Of course, that was more than 36 years later! Time marches on!

It is all Starbucks or Costa coffee now Berona

It was a great shame when the Lyons Corner House tea rooms disappeared, they were a British institution and renowned the world over.
No place in these days of fast food outlets.

Not sure if you can still even have tea at the Ritz

So dare I ask what happened to Dorothy Perkins dress shops? I worked for them, too, at their head office in Holborn. At that time, they had 106 shops scattered around the country, but I never saw one on my second trip.
