It seems strange that it had had it's wings clipped when they are found in the wild

Linda,
How can you not know what a galah is?

and you have got pets............worms!

Thank you Allan for explaining the the Aussie expression,

I was known by my Aussie friends in Sydney as

"Our mate the Pommie Galah"

So I was a twit?

Oh I forgot about the worms, but they belong to OH really. Odd though that it is me who ends up feeding them.

I have never been to Oz, so although |I knew it was a parroty type bird, I didn;t know what it looked like.

Allan

Allan Report 26 Feb 2010 23:01

Linda, apparently its wings were clipped to prevent it flying away, but not enough that it could not escape any ground danger

If that makes any sense! Another reason why we don't know how it got to where we live

Only in the nicest possible sense, Tec :0))

How annoying - I've been kicked off again.

Galahs are commonplace where I live. We live not far from a football field and after the grass is cut hundreds of galahs can be seen feeding on the grass seed. We also have loads of white cockatoos and often have visits from a couple of kookaburras.

Sue, I envy you with the bird life, although I know they can be noisy.

Allan, Maybe whoever stole the bird livedin your neighbourhood, and it escaped it's captors, or they let it go.

I am off now, I know I haven;t been around much, but I have been on the computer all evening and my head has had enough.
I have been sorting out my annual country shows and fairs list for the tourist office. There are millions of the things throughout the year. I produce a long list of them and we sell it in the shop. It takes a fair amount of time to research and produce,so I have been doing it at home over the weekend. I know I must be daft, but we do sell a lot of them and people are already coming in asking for them.

Linda, I know you don't watch Neighbours on TV, but OH does, and the Kennedy's have a pet galah often sat on the back of their sofa,

I obviously don't watch............

Good morning Janet.

I think that we had a few drops just after midnight but really nothing to speak off.

Also a very windy night down here!

Berona Report 26 Feb 2010 23:20

Sorry I have been missing (if anyone missed me!), but I slipped over to FR for a quick look at something and got tangled up. I took an hour to boot up this morning. I really think I should have closed down and started again!

We have galahs in abundance around here. They collect in an area where there is a stormwater canal and plenty of trees (they're not stupid!). They have light grey feathers and bright pink breasts - and can be taught to talk. My grandfather had one in a big cage for many years but all he learned to say was "Hello cockie". I think there were too many of us trying to teach him different words!

Tec - if you were called a 'pommy galah' I really don't think you were receiving a compliment!

Allan

Allan Report 26 Feb 2010 23:22

It could be Tec,

there are a few 'characters' in the vicinity

Tecwyn Report 26 Feb 2010 23:29

Good Morning Janet,

Are you wanting rain? we have plenty.
Apparently we are have thr residue of the big storm that is currently causing havoc in Spain and Iberia - wind-rain-snow,
sounds like fun.

Berona, I think I was a bit of a galah when I was younger, but that Aussie lot insisted on dragging me off to all their party's and barbies, so maybe they took for entertainment value, as you would a clown?

Tec

Berona

Berona Report 26 Feb 2010 23:32

You're probably right there, Tec. I can imagine that you were quite entertaining when you were young - but hey! you are quite entertaining now!

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Feb 2010 23:36

Thank you Berona,
Allan and I are doing a turn at the Opera House soon,
we'll send you comp' tickets

Are you coming?
