Allan,
I much prefer to go to a pub for a meal rather than a drink.

Berona

I've heard that word spoken by young ones and I'm sure they have no idea of the real meaning of it. It's used by them as a current term for people they don't have a lot of time for, or whose opinion doesn't matter to them, etc.

Favourite words come and go and don't always have their true meaning. The most common is b**t**d. It is mostly applied to someone who has done something nasty - nothing to do with their birth!

Pat, that is about the extent of our pub visits these days, and usually at lunch time.

When I was working if someone left they usually held their leaving 'do' at a pub, but unlike the UK, at least where we live the nearest pub is a decent drive away.

You wouldn't take your wife or girlfriend to most of the pubs around here. We generally go to our local club for a meal and sometimes entertainment. We don't like crowded places but will put up with it for the sake of a good show. I do like dancing but that's usually at functions.

Good night Pat - sleep tight.

Tec - you set Diane thinking - and she has pm'd me asking how did I know that she was still up when you told her that I said "go to bed"! She wanted to know if I had ESP?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Feb 2010 22:51

Berona,
Diane pmd me also, she was mystified as how on earth you knew she was still up.
I pmd her back, and told her your had a crystal ball, and could watch us all in that, so she'd better behave.

Have you got a crystal ball Berona?

Tec, A while ago you mentioned an ancestor who died in Albany NSW, and I thought that it could possibly be WA as Albany (then known as Fredrickstown) was the first settlement in what was later to become WA but was at the time still administered fro NSW.

OH informed me yesterday that the choir is going to Albany next November to sing at one of the churches there. I'll be going with her but will be foot loose and fancy free for a couple of days.

If you pm me the details of your ancestor I could use the time to check around and see if I can find any further info for you.

That's very kind of you Allan,
I'll dig out what info I have, and let you know, though as I recall there isn't much, but there is time for me to do more research.
Thank you.

How far is Albany from you approx'

Tec

Allan

Allan Report 27 Feb 2010 23:10

Tec it's about 400 kms.

I use to do nearly half of the trip when I worked recently in the great Southern, at Gnowangerup.

Good night Tec,

The distance may seem a fair one Tec, but for most of it, it is quiet country roads.

You just have to keep an eye out for the wild life!

With most of my rellos in Newcastle (app. 100 miles away), we think nothing of going that far and even another 20 miles or so, to attend a wedding, or funeral. Of course, these days, I spend the rest of the week sleeping more than usual, but that's just me! Many people drive that far to attend business meetings, etc.
My aunt used to come from Newcastle to Sydney on the train - just to play bingo! - she was in her nineties!
