I did eat a lot of cake! There was Jaffa cakes and choccy bisciuts and Janine who's French made this lemon cup cakes. They were very nice. She is so modest about her cooking.

I think a walking stick does take some getting used to Berona, but you will get the hang of it, and find it a great help.
Brilliant idea about the trigger and a bullet chamber - no one would mess with you then - and if they did, just zap 'em.
You could also stick it through the window of the car and zap anyone who cuts you up on the road.
My uncle had one that if you unscrewed the handle, there was a thin glass phial with a cork in it, to carry a nip or two of whisky, or brandy, whatever.

Pat, Sounds like that was more of a party than a prayer meeting. You'd better go to the gym tomorrow to burn off those calories.

Tut, tut, Pat. I would admonish you about the cakes but I suddenly remembered that last week, I bought a frozen cheesecake (for visitors), but somehow, it has half-gone already - and no visitors!

I ate a whole lemon cheescake over Christmas all on my own, no wonder I've developed a little pot!

Hello Everyone :))

What a warm day its been here again. Starting to cloud over so hoping for some rain tonight .))

Finished work a little earlier today. Although I did spend some extra time in my last ladies house. I am suppose to stay for about 1 and half hours, but cant help but stay longer when I see they need extra help or a chat :) No airconditioning but I did manage to convince her to open up a window, elderly peeps just dont like to open windows !

Hope everyone is smiling ::)))

Hello Janet, I'm elderly and I don't open windows. Two reasons - one that I use the air conditioner a lot and the other because just after I came here, my n.d. neighbour was robbed (in broad daylight). Access was gained through his window, which is the same kind as mine. Mine have been locked since then and stay locked. I think the reason why we don't open the windows, is that we might 'forget' to close them! - the memory being what it is as we get older! I do, however, have my front door open most of the time and my back door open ALL of the time - until I go out or go to bed. I can't forget to close them! Both have fly-screen doors, which are locked and unlocked as I need to use them.

Good morning/evening everybody.

I've just been trying to catch up with the posts.

OH has both a sewing machine and a seperate overlocker. I know that the sewing machine does embroidery as OH downloads designs from the web, but although I am well versed in most domestic disciplines, my mother never made me make my own dresses!

For CC....the Galah (Not CC but the saga!)

Last Wednesday morning OH was watering the front garden when a galah swooped over her head and made for the bird bath, then strutted down the garden to where OH was working and just stayed there. OH went to see it and it moved a little further back but made no attempt to fly off.

Out came one of the cats and the bird became a little agitated, but as our cats only go for the tiny birds, the size of this one made it think twice. The cat walked closer, the bird ruffled its feathers and backed off. This happened a few times before the cat gave up and walked away, whereupon the galah flew on to OH's shoulder and did a little dance.

The bird was obviuosly domesticated so we took it inside and gave it some more water and some apple, which it didn't want.

Along came cat number two, the lean mean killing machine!

It crouched in front of the galah ready to pounce and the galah calmly walked right up to him ang peckeh him hard on the nose. The cat was staggered and just stayed there, peck number two and the cat shot out of the house!

Cat three was more easily dealt with as he is the old one! He came in, looked at the bird and crouched. The bird just advanced towards it and the cat started backing away, the bird kept advancing and the cat kept retreating until it could see the cat flap through which the cat hurled itself.

The galah just looke around as though to say "That was fun! Have you got anymore"

We put an ad in the local deli and on the community notice board to say that we had found the bird.

On the next day (Thursday) I had just got back from Collie when OH told me to listen to a message on the phone. A guy had called to say he thought the bird may have been his.

He came round that afternoon and said that it was and that it had been stolen from his yard. But the weird thing was the galah's wings had been clipped and this guy was from the other side of Bunbury, probably about 10 kms (as the Galah flys) from our house, so how the bird made its way to Australind is anyone's guess.

It was quite entertaining for the time it did spend with us!

Good morning/evening everyone. Beautiful morning here, but heat expected to rise by the afternoon again to 31.

Allan, your description reminded me of when a neighbour of ours had a pet Magpie and we had a "hunter". My Mum and I were talking to the neighbour at her gate when our cat decided to join us and saw Maggie. His neck grew long and his ears went straight up! Maggie turned her back and waddled away up the path - with him after her, looking like Sylvester with belly close to the ground, walking on tippy-toes! He got to within half a metre of her and without even looking around, she gave a mighty SQUAWK!! He did a backflip, and after collecting his dignity, tried a second time - got another squawk, and after doing another backflip - decided to go home!

Good morning/evening - where is everyone?

I'm up late cos I went to see George Michael last night with my daughter. It was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I'd forgotten how good he is and how much I like his music. It wasn't wonderful when he sang "Careless Whispers".

Good MorningBerona,

it was funny to see as the cats are noy sued to 'victims' that fight back! During the day, as long as the galah was in the house the cats stayed outside.

Usually when it is hot, as it had been they are in the comfort of the airconditioned lounge room

Good morning Sue, I'm glad that you enjoyed the concert

Glad you enjoyed George Michael Sue,

Allan, The encounter with the galah sounds hysterical - you can buy pet galah's here for around £1,000 - £2,000 but the must be home bred in UK because of Cites rules.

CC, Do you remember Radio Caroline?

Good evening Tec,

I'm glad that I was not the only one having problems.

Sue in answer to your earlier post yes iinet is a WA company and is now third biggest Internet provider in Australia.

They have taken over may smaller providers but kept the staff on and let them trade under their original name.

Not bad for a company that started out in a garage in Perth.

I've been with them for over ten years and switched when I was having problems with my previous service provider

Good evening Linda,

Galah is also an Aussie expression (in a good natured way) for someone who is a bit of a twit, yet the birds themselves are so intelligent.

The one in our temporary care did not want the apple we cut up for it, but walked straight into the pantry and helped itself to a tomato!
