Good Morning Allan,

I've been known to take the dog to the beach at 5 am - never 3 am, but will wait 'tll a summers day to do that. Just now the thought of being out there at 3 am is a little daunting.
Besides, the local wheelie bins are very anti social.

Good evenig Tec, good morning Sue

I've just been reading Tania's thread and I suddenly thought about Persey.

Does anyone know whereabouts in NZ Persey is in relation to the coast?

Hello, Allan - sorry didn't see you there:-))

I'm always aware - as are most people - that we can control most things with technology but we can't control Mother Nature. She often shows us who's boss.

Allan,

Perse is in Aukland, though on a narrow piece of land with sea to the west, and the Hauraki Gulf to the east - quite a way west of Gisbourne though - I hope they will be safe.

I did think of Persey but I wasn't sure if she is in the danger area. I hope not 'cos she won't be able to run fast enough.

I don't know about anyone else but i'd never heard of the word tsunami until 2005.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Feb 2010 21:37

Pat,
When I was at sea the term used was "Tidal Wave" which doesn't really say it, Tsunami is a more correct and technical term now used.

Good evening Pat

I must say that I am with you on that one, but what a h*ll of a way to have to learn about the word!

Tec, being an old seadog may well have encountered the term before

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hadn't heard the meaning of that word before. I don't feel so dumb now.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 27 Feb 2010 21:50

It wasn't a word I was familiar with either until the Boxing Day tsunami in Asia.

Tsunami is a Japanese term, meaning Seismic Sea Wave,

now used universally

i thought it was a japanese word but i didn't know what it meant. karaoke is another japanese word.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 27 Feb 2010 22:03

I think karaoke could sometimes mean "grown people who drink enough to make them think they can sing".

PatriciaAnn

PatriciaAnn Report 27 Feb 2010 22:11

i've never been to a karaoke!

Allan

Allan Report 27 Feb 2010 22:12

Sue,

I'd never be able to drink that much!!

My voice has been likened to that of someone whose t*sticl*s have been caught in a threshing machine

Pat, neither have I.

In fact I try to avoid all noisy places.

Even when I was younger I only ever went to one night club and that was enough to put me of for life.

Even now, if we go to the pub for a drink I have to leave when the conversation volume reaches a certain level
