Wouldn't miss it! I hope there is a side entrance - I would never get up those front steps!
Actually, I can remember the Opera House being built - and I have never been in it!

Tec, the Aussies take great delight in taking the rise out of people who make mistakes.

When I first arrived in Leonora, I caused much hilarity in the pub by reffering to Aboriginal makeshift shelters as Humpties.

The correct word is Hummpy.

I think that the Aussies wait to see how you react as to how they treat you in the future.

I accepted with good grace and stumped up a round!

But even today there are occasional letters in the press from Brits complaining about the term Pom or Pommy, claiming it is racist!

Yes Rain would be nice, so please send some :)

The hummpy is the term used for the little houses that the mine workers etc use to live in whilst they are there. The strange thing was the other day a friend said to me it was hump day...I had never heard of this term and she explained it was the day Wednesday the middle of the week. Then on Sunrise they mentioned it ! I learn something new every day :)

I think you're right about the Aussie reaction Allan, if you're going to be over sensitive, or strutt about being pompous then they'll soon sort you out, or ignore you. I've seen this happen.
The ability to laugh at ones self, and not take yourself too seriously seems to be the accepted way in Oz, and rightly so.

Berona, I also watched the Opera House being built around 61/62, and wondered what is was for ages. Everytime my ship passedunder the bridge they had put a bit more on it - quite futuristic architecture at the time.

Hello everyone:-)

Its raining here today, I'm glad cos my plants were starting to look a bit dry, even though two weeks ago we had flooding, the ground didn't take too long to dry out. I cant believe summers nearly over.

We have a lot of Gallah's here, too. They can be seen on the side of our roads - eating whatever it is that wild Gallah's eat. My parents had one as a pet when we were younger, kept it out in the back yard along with the chooks. I don't think it liked us though, as it would just scream at us if we went anywhere near its cage.

I'm glad you enjoyed seeing George Michael in concert, Sue:-) There was a write up in the Sun newspaper this morning, he received really good reviews on his performance in Sydney. I love his song, Careless Whispers!!
Did you get up and dance??

I hope you all enjoy the rest of Saturday/Those that are sleeping wake to a sunny day:-))

Cheery- bye

Hi Carole..(although you have probably gone by now).

So envious of you with the rain...so hot here at the moment. I have been out and about today visiting family. Nice to get home and put the air con on :)

Going to spend the rest of my afternoon watching some of the Olympics and have a wine or two...drink that is.

Hope you are all enjoying your day and those waking enjoy your day !!

I sure did get up and dance, Carole:-)) Wouldn't you? I love dancing!!

Janet, it was a great show and all the better for being with my daughter. She is great fun to be with.

CC - you may have only just joined us but you are well and truly part of the "gang":-)))

It's been hot and sticky here again and is forecast for tomorrow too - but the first day of autumn is supposed to be cool and wet. I don't mind - like you Carole I think the garden could do with some rain.

Hi there CC, Janet and Sue:-))

That's great Sue, of coarse I would have gotten up to dance, my daughter probably would have told me 'to sit down Mum, your embarrassing me' she being only 16:-))

I hope you enjoy your glass or 2 of wine Janet, my favorite at the moment is Brown Brothers Muscato (sp) - its a bit sweet, like me LOL.
I hope you get some rain there soon, its been a while since you've had any rain in WA.

CC, you were up pretty late, sorry you couldn't sleep, hope you are ok:-))

Its still drizzling outside, it looks very wintery here. Its a good night to stay in and catch up on some serious R and R ( rest and reading) and a nice glass of vino:-))

Cheers!!

Hi, CC - hope you're feeling ok. I hate a sleepless night.

Carole I love moscato - it is sweet but I do enjoy it. I really like the Wolf Blass Yellow Label moscato but there's one called Yellow Tail which is also nice. Yes at 16 daughters get very embarrassed but once they are grown up they enjoy it if you join in with what they love to do. Of course there are some things I draw the line at:-))

Hi CC

It must have been a night for sleeplessness's cos last night I had one, too!!
Mine was because it was very warm, it didn't register to my sleepy mind to get up and turn on the aircon - it would have solved my insomnia, lol!!!

Sue.. at the moment little miss 16 is learning Hip Hop, now I'm usually up for a challenge, I don't think I will go there!!!!

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

Firstly, I hope very much that the tsunami threat to the East coast of Australia, and NZ does not materialise, or is not strong enough to cause damage.

All this talk of wine consumption - are you all sure you're quite sober?
oh what a pity - that's boring - drink up!

I hope all you sleepless ones had a better night, and that CC will have a better night tonight. Whenever I can't sleep I try to concentrate on the riddles and brick walls of my ancestors. It never fails to send me off. Although I have been known to leap out of bed at 3 am to check something out that suddenly makes sense, only to find that it doesn't. I then go back to bed, wide awake, and lay there 'till 5 am thinking about it.
Maybe I need therapy.

Hi Tec,
My globe is in the spare room with lots of other stuff. I can never get my head around that there's a "backside to the globe" To me Chile is on the left handside of the world and Australia is on the right. My brother in law's nephew lives in Chile. His mother said that she thnks he's ok because he's about 300 miles away from the epicentre.
Hi to everyone else.

SueMaid Report 27 Feb 2010 20:41

Hello all - hope everyone is well.

Tec - we aren't expecting huge waves. Apparently very rough seas with rips so we've been warned not to go to the beach. I'm more concerned about my friend Tania who has a thread up. Tania and her family have already had the police warning of evacuations.

Good evening and good morning all. I, too, heard about the earthquake and the tsunami warnings. I also heard that people on the east coast of Australia should not go into the surf. With our temperature expected to reach 31 again, I expect that warning will not be heeded by a lot of people.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Feb 2010 21:07

Sue, Berona,

So glad you're not expecting anything major to happen - but people would do well to heed the warnings. I hope your friend Tania will be safe Sue. She is in NZ isn't she?

Hi Pat, Chile and Australia and NZ are on opposite sides of the Pacific, although it's a vast ocean, a Tsunami can also travel vast distances.
I feel very sorry for the people of Chile, and coming so soon after Haiti.

Good morning/evening everyone

Tec, next time you wake up at 3.00am go for a walk. It was fantastic this morning although a bit windy. A cool 19c and with nearly a full moon nice and light.

I suppose that one day Aussies either East or West will pay the price for wanting to live by the ocean

It's enough to drive a man to drink: or in my case, a slow amble to the cask!

Good morning Berona - there will always be foolish people who don't heed the warnings.

Tec - Tania is in NZ. She has a thread on here about the warnings.

Pat - hope your back is getting better.

I do feel for the people of Chile although they appear better able to cope with disaster than the people of Haiti. I still can't get my head around the number of people who died in Haiti.
