Pat, It's good to be with company at Christmas, we haven't done any Christmas shopping yet either - there are'nt any small children in the family now, and not knowing what to buy the older ones, we send money to them. They can then get something they actually want.

Sorry I have missed various people going.

I just made a breakthrough on my tree thanks to the new death records on Ancestry. It was on OH's side so he came and we were able to fill in lot's of gaps. Based on what I had discovered, it even made sense of some oft he old photo's we have. I will now be able to scan them in and add them to the tree.

Mt children will be coming home for Christmas at various stages Tec. My daughter and her fiance were with us last year,so they will be with his parents this year. They will probably come to us for a few days before hand. My son and his partner are actually going to her mother's for lunch on Xmas day, but she doesn't want to stay there very long,so they are going to drive up to us on the afternoon. Odd but that is what they want.

I am off to bed now, so sleep well or have a good day everyone.

Goodnight Linda, Sleep well, keep warm,

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time on your tree filling in gaps, very encouraging isn't it when things fit together like a jigsaw.

My daughter and son-in-law, and grand daughter came to us for years for Christmas, but the last two years OH has found it all a bit of a strain coping on Christmas Day, and gets in a terrible state, so they don't come now, but they come over a few days after Christmas, and that's fine.
We have a nice relaxed day doing our own thing.

Hi Diane if you look in, hope you're ok.............

Alison, Thinking of you, hope your meeting with the consultant goes ok, and the travelling doesn't tire you too much.

Carole - Hope everyone in your house is well now. Did you ever find a horse?

Janet - Glad the exams were not too mind bending - good luck with next weeks......you'll sail through with honours.

Perse....I expect you're out looking for lost sheep, hope you don't find a troll instead, lurking behind a wheelie bin.

Goodnight my friends

Hello Mates!,

I had a particularly "off" day yesterday, so just looked in, but didn't post.

2 friends popped in unexpectedly yesterday (and they brought gifts!!!!!!!), so they pepped me up. They didn't stay long, which was great, as I tire easily now.

I have Herceptin tomorrow. I sure will be glad when this radiation is done and dusted - and I hope it works!!

I hope you're all well, good, behaving (that's aimed at Allan and Tec) and happy.

Ciao

PS I'm over Tiger Woods too.

Afternoon here,

Sorry was out again today; himself had his final checkup on his foot. He put his wellies on the other day but otherwise he wears a scuff on one foot. Surgeon pleased about his alignment (probably bit like a wheel alignment) but his foot still tends to swell each day. Then we went to a store where he has a card - it is a big department store ( it is usually the woman that has the card) - It was extra 30% to 50% off just for the cardholders.

I too like comfy and in the winter if I had my way I would just wear fleecy pyjamas (they are so warm and cuddly) - often amazed when I have been in the supermarket or the Warehouse of an evening to see adults in there in their PJs and dressing gowns... don't mind the kids but you think that teenage to adults could wait till they are at home. A friend of mine said to this woman once oh I do like you trouser suit to which the reply was "oh these are my pyjamas" So sometimes it is hard to tell and only today my OH was looking at what he thought were tops and shorts for the grandchildren only to have me tell him they were bedwear.

Linda can you go through my photos - as I think I have said before we have albums of people we don't know. There is no photograph of my father's father - think they were probably too poor to have a camera. There is not even a wedding photo - they got married in WA.

Well will now go an see what the panto has done without me today. Allan has probably had a wonderful time without Pesky Persey.

Cheers

Persephone and her flock of mobiles.

Since Christmas is approaching and Berona is talking of wrapping presents and Pat is going shopping.

Little blond haired 2 - 3 yrd old girl in shopping mall was not impressed with Santa at all - he did not say Ho Ho Ho - he said Hi there. Blondes are not dumb at all at all.

Alison,

I'm so sorry to hear that yesterday was not one of your better days, but with your strong spirit Iam convinced that you overcome your recent setback.

You are, at the very least, facing it with fortitude :0))

If you need a complete change, tune into the panto thread. Sheer stupidity and escapism......just what the Dr. ordered

Kindest Regards

Good morning everyone.

I am sorry that you were not s good yesterday Alison, but what lovely friends you have to not only come and see you, but to bring gifts as well. I hope that today goes better for you.

I think that you will have to sort your own photo's Perse as there are still so many here. I was really pleased for OH yesterday though. He has very few photo's of his family because his step mother walked away from the family as soon as his father died, taking everything with her. Eventually through a different source he was given a large carrier bag full of mainly unnamed photos. Some were of his father and aunt when they were young and he managed to identify a few others, although he didn't know where these people fitted into his family.

Suddenly last night I found a death on the new Ancestry records, that gave me a birth and so on. I was able to fill in a satisfyingly large section of the tree.Suddenly the odd names on the back of the photo's made sense and we were able to spot those people on other photo's as well. I could see that he was really pleased,so that makes me happy.

Persephone Report 3 Dec 2009 10:08

Morning Linda

I am just about ready for bed. No one thought to write on the back of most of our photos, with the exception of one of OH's uncles (married OH's father's sister) he was extraordinary in his care with things. We got his books - and when I looked through one of them he had written my name and that the person in there was one of my ancestors.
We have not long ago taken a whole lot of his photos and written works down to a Hydropower company in Wellington. OH's uncle had all the history of the pylons etc built in the Manawatu area where he was a Hydro engineer. He was an amazing man - I also have his large photo in frame of Manchester University where he got his degree. He died in 1986 and we still have his ashes - poor man - they are supposed to be scattered from a pylon and the man that was to do it had had a heart attack at the time and since died. So one day I guess we will have to scramble up atop of the Rimutaka Hills and find the correct pylon - but I can't see either of us climbing it. In the meantime he is safe with us.

I don't think that you should attempt to climb the pylon Perse,or you will be ashes as well.....
I would just settle for scattering them underneath.

Enjoy your dinner Allan.

When I had the bookshop - I used to regularly see this woman who would come in twice a year and buy NZ books for her son for birthdays and Christmas. He was mentally handicapped and lived in an institution. One day I was showing her a book and she said no that wouldn't be him until she saw a picture of a pylon in it. They apparently would go out for lunch and picnic under a pylon - he was absolutely fascinated with them. So next time she arrived I presented her with this big picture of a pylon - this is 'the pylon' it is a very good picture but I could never see us having it on the wall. She went to pay me for it - and I said no this was for her son and that OH 's uncle would appreciate it going to a good home. Then she started to cry, luckily no one else was about. After that her son would always say did you get my books from that lady that gave me the picture?

Perse...

LindainHerriotCountry Report 3 Dec 2009 10:31

What a nice lady you are Perse.

I hate to see things not being put to use, though I suppose that is because I am not a hoarder. I always take anything which might be useful in any way to the charity shops.

When we were down in London last week, my daughters fiancée was having a sort out and was just about to bin lot's of good stuff. He said he hasn't got time to drive to a shop and in any case it costs him money to park. Needless to say I rescued it and brought it back with me.

Persephone

Persephone Report 3 Dec 2009 10:42

I'm into Op shops - for giving and even buying the odd thing (so is himself)
Gave heaps of my father's stuff to the Salvation Army.
Now there was a hoarder - even the real estate chap was amused by him. They moved into their house in 1967 and he left there in 1990 to go into a resthome and on this large nail in the garage downstairs was every years' calendar. My OH had to dump a trailer road of rusty implements and bits of scraps that just could not be salvalged.

I thought that my dad was bad enough, but yours sounds even worse.

I am waiting for a delivery, which according to the on line tracking is out on the van. The problem is that it is coming from some distance away,so you can bet that it will not arrive until this afternoon when I will not be here. I will then have to arrange for it to be delivered again.

I really need to go out this morning,as I have lots of things to do, but if I do, of course they will turn up this morning. You can't win really

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 3 Dec 2009 10:55

Persey that was a very kind thing to do. Linda's right - you are a nice lady.

Linda - it's great that you are able to piece together some facts about your OH's family. I remember you saying before that he had little information about his family. With your research skills you'll have all the facts you need in no time. I haven't had the time to look at the deaths on Ancestry yet but it will certainly clear up a few mysteries.

Alison I'm sorry you've had a bad day - hope things are sorted out soon and radiotherapy makes you more comfortable. I really wish there was something I could do to make things better for you but all I can do is send my love.

lol don't build me up too much here Sue, I simply click on a few web pages, but it is nice when it all falls into place.

That reminds me that I have another death cert I want to order. Good job OH doesn't realise just how many certs I have bought over the years!
