Hey all or HO HO HO if you prefer!

Thanks Barbra for the post and thanks Persey for the pep-talk.

I was reading your posts on bookshops. My sister worked for that King Richard fellow for a while - the one that has the Biggest Second Hand Book Shop In The World - or something. She is maaaad keen on books. That must have been in the 90's I think.

I've had a better day today. Had my Herceptin treatment. Had my usual weigh-in. I've lost 4 kilos, am now down to 59. The doctor was pleasantly surprised when I told him I've only used Morphine once since I got home from hospital. I was telling the Nun (the hospital is a Catholic run one) today, that I will be glad to get home from radiation - I haven't even left yet!

Because our little guy will be coming with us next week for my treatment, today was his last day of school. There is one more week left. He will miss break-up day and the graduation ceremony, but he will be going to the dance tonight.

I may pop on later and see what you're all up to.

Ciao for now

Good to hear from you Alison and to know things are going OK for you. Something must be going right if the Doc is pleased with you. My brother in law must have the same kind of morphine tabs that you have. He only takes them when he absolutely has to - but he's been doing that for years!

He doesn't get around much now - he's turned 80 - unfortunately broke his leg last year in a fall and it has taken a long time to heal. Otherwise, he's fine.

Another lovely day to-day here and yet another forecast for tomorrow. Hope it's the same where you are.

Hi Alison:-)) You are so incredibly upbeat although I know you must have your down times. The power of positive thinking should never be underestimated and a good network of family and friends works wonders - we are part of that network. We are beside you all the way, beautiful girl.

Normal internet service is resumed thank goodness. I just gave up last night because it just kept cutting off.

I am glad that yesterday went well Alison. Next week will soon be over and you will be back home again. At least if you are taking your son with you, you will not have the worry about how he is and an extra week off won't do him any harm.

I am waiting for the present idea Carol, so I hope it is good.

I haven't looked at the panto thread, I will, as soon as I have time.

I am just about to tackle some curtain shortening for the projection room in the cinema. The poor things are freezing in there despite all the electrical equipment. In the old days film was made from something which burst into flames easily,so by law projection rooms had to have no direct access to the cinema. They have an external door and for some reason another set of double wooden doors which also lead to the outside of the building. The old doors are very drafty and the curtains which are there are in shreds.

I volunteered to replace them with some new ones. I was going to make them, but the local curtain shop was having a sale and I found some incredibly cheap ones which are just the job. I am going to add an extra set of thermal linings which cost twice as much as the curtains did. They all need shortening though and they are very large curtains,so are going to be unwieldy. Still we can't have them freezing,so I had better set to it.

Any strange mumbling and cursing in the next couple of hours will be coming from me.

Goodevening/ morning all
Sue the place you visited was probably the new Liverpool One and since you saw it, it has been completed, and yes to get round all the town centre, ( old and new ) it would take a whole day. I intend to go one day when I'm off which is in 11day's. They have replaced the 125 Superlamb Banana's we had dotted all over the town with Penquin's and they look very cute. If you want to see the lamb banana's and the Big Spider that was roaming around the Town Centre you can go on Google and put in Liverpool Capital of Culture and you can visit web site's about the whole event.

Alison it is good to hear you so positive hun and I hope your treatment goe's well and that you are not to tired or sick after it, I'm sending you all my love and best wishes, ((((( Big hug )))))

Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of day's but I have been busy makeing bib's for my employer inbetween takeing painkiller's and sleep and oh yes work lol

Good Morning here,

I'm up early - had some pain so got up and had a coffee.

Berona, I'm on liquid morphine. I have to have 1ml when I need it.

Carole, I do like to read, but have gone off it lately, I think because my eyes get so tired and heavy. I umm......like historical romances, preferably Scottish ones - can't stand American.

Linda, that sounds like a job and a half sewing curtains. You and Diane should get together!

Thanks for the little pep talks everyone. At the moment, my mood is "I couldn't give a stuff" and I'm quite lethargic. The word "sloth" comes to mind!

Berona Report 4 Dec 2009 20:50

Hi Alison. You ARE up early! I was up early too - but the puter played up and had to be rebooted, so what 'extra' time I had was lost in waiting!

You might feel like a rest later on. Take it when you can. Perhaps, if the pain is eased, you could get some sleep, whenever it may be.

Good Day - Good evening,

We may not hear from Linda just yet - I have this mental image of her tangled up in miles of curtains unable to move, hopefully she may be found eventually.

Diane......You are a busy bee. Hope you are feeling better, and I know you must be counting the days...........

Alison............I hope you are more comfortable now that you're up, and can rest later. Take it easy beautiful lady - thinking of you.

Berona.....What big plans do you have in store today? Do something astounding, and get them all talking!

Tec

Berona

Berona Report 4 Dec 2009 21:26

Good evening Tec. Yes! very enviable, I'm sure. I have no plans at all. I should do some food shopping, but it's not a job I cherish, and I am not looking forward to the weather man being correct with his forecast - 31, so I would say that I will get nothing done to-day - that is probably closest to the truth......How exciting!

I am at present, checking into the idea of shopping online for food and have been comparing prices. All this with a view to giving up driving in the not too distant future. Whilst I still feel quite competent and have quick response - I know that in the event of an accident, a lot of blame would be placed on my age - whether right or not - so I am thinking of not renewing next October. Being without transport presents a lot of problems to me, so I thought I would start having my food/groceries delivered to see how it goes. It did do this a few years ago, but the last delivery had spilled milk and fresh veggies were not as fresh as they should be , so I cancelled it.

Good morning/evening to you all

Alison, nice to see you back. I'm pleased that you are still so positive, and that your pain has abated.

Linda, is it curtains for you ? :0))

Carole I've been to Melbourne a few times but I do not envy you going there at this time of year. To crowded for me!

Berona, your ditty yesterday left me stunned! All my previous images of you that I had built up over the period of this Thread were shattered!

Hello to Diane, Sue and Tec

Tecwyn Report 4 Dec 2009 21:42

Hi Berona,
I think it's a very good idea to try on-line shopping again, Maybe things have improved now. Apart from the driving aspect, you never know when you may not be up to shopping, and if you've tried it again successfully, then there would be no need to worry.
As for giving up driving, well I think you should continue as long as you can, and as long as you feel confident. Even going for a short drive gets you out of the house for a while.
I suppose much depends on local traffic conditions - I find it difficult in built up areas now - I've become unaccustomed to heavy traffic now, and find city drivers very aggressive - that's because there is so little traffic where I live. I've noticed there are many quite old drivers around here - I'm talking late 80s - early 90s.
Have to be patient because they tootle along narrow roads at 25/30 mph, and brake at the slightest hint of a bend...........no rush then.

Good morning Allan. I wasn't sure if I should post that ditty - not because of its content, but because it was so old! I was in primary school when I heard it and have not been able to hear the carol since then without putting those words to it (in my mind, of course - not aloud).

Allan

Allan Report 4 Dec 2009 21:48

Berona,

As Tec says, hang on to your licence for as long as possible. You may not feel like driving everywher but I'm sure that you would miss your regular drives into the country to buy your fruit and vegies.

I do not know about NSW but the cost of the fruit etc in our local two big supermarket chains in WA is horrendous!

Allan

Berona

Berona Report 4 Dec 2009 21:56

Thank you Tec, for your encouragement to continue driving. As I said, I still feel very alert and competent - and courteous. Impatient drivers don't worry me. I don't try to control them - I allow them to pass and get out of my way, as with motor bikes...In fact, other traffic of any kind doesn't worry me and I feel that I would have no problem driving in the heaviest of city traffic - or industrial estates. However, I have no reason to drive in those places, nor do I need to drive at busy times. All I need these days, is to be able to get out to get food, prescriptions, and to see the doc when I need to and I cannot walk to any of those places.

My daughter keeps saying she will take me - BUT - she is battling to get to see me lately just for a coffee and often has to cancel because she has to meet the Coca Cola man at the cricket canteen, or pick her three kids up from three different schools, etc. I know what it's like because I did the same at her age - she just doesn't have the time - and she is talking of going back to work!!

Tecwyn Report 4 Dec 2009 21:57

Good Morning Young Man,

I could almost taste the fish and chips you enjoyed eating out of paper, haven't done that for years.
Fish is a very expensive commodity here now. Fish and chip shops mostly sell only cod, occassionally haddock, and sometimes skate.
I used to love a fish called rock ell, or rock salmon, that I believe is actually dogfish, but you never see that here.

Tec, fish is very expensive in WA.

I loved my time working on the docks at Grimsby. We practically lived on fish.

I do a bit of beach fishing but haven't caught enough to survive on!

We used to fish of an old timeber jetty in Bunbury, and also from the Quayside at the Port of Bunbury. Both of those areas are now closed to the public: one for safety reasons, the other for security!

Thanks to you too Allan. Yes, I would miss my little drive each week. Although it's to keep the battery alive, I really do enjoy it - and yes, I would miss the fruit market, even though I haven't been using it for very long.

The only two online shopping places that I know of are the two big supermarkets which have helped to eliminate the little corner shop. There used to be a fruit and veg shop, a butcher and a milk-bar which sold a few groceries and smallgoods - right at the end of my street in a little row of shops. I might be able to walk to them, but since WW and Aldi opened in the area and trade 7 days, these little shops have closed and are now used as offices. The big ones are too far away for me to walk to them.
