I hope that you have had a lovely day Diane.

OH did wake up and ate some dinner, but it wasn't the same with just the two of us. Still we did our best and at least we were together, which is all that matters. My son should be here in about an hour.

Last year I had a spell when I would lose my internet for days as well. The immediate neighbours had the problem at the same time. It was a fault in the local exchange, but it took them about three months to sort it out.

Hi Linda, glad to hear OH had some dinner, you will have had time to clear up and have a little rest before your son arrive's.
I started my day getting up for work at 6-30am as I had to be there for 7-30am. Was there till 11-30 then came home. The dinner was all cooked yesterday evening so it was a case of putting some in microwave and the rest in oven to warm it all up. This year was very different to other yrs as daughter and two of her girl's went to my eldest son's this yr because we are still not speaking, but her eldest daughter who is 16yrs this coming January came and joined me and my yougest son for Christmas dinner. So allthough it was a very nice afternoon and dinner was lovely it wasn't the same with-out the other's, who have alway's come here since my daughter first left home 17yrs ago.

I watched DR WHO earlier and enjoyed it, I am going to watch Catherine Tate later as I think she is brilliant, hope you enjoy your time with your son and his girlfriend.

Hello All! Am I the first to post on Boxing Day? Hope everyone has had an enjoyable Christmas Day. Santa should be on the last lap of his time-zone jumping and that's it for another year!

It's very quiet around me. No cars coming or going - must have all tired themselves out yesterday and taking advantage of not having to go to work. Light rain fell yesterday and must have fallen again overnight, but not raining just now. I think I still have to water my pots - can't seem to get out of that! Expected top of 21 with more rain. That's fine by most of us here. Those of you in the cold zones - keep warm!

Don't be silly Berona, it isn't boxing day. it is still Christmas day

Allan Report 25 Dec 2009 21:47

Good morning/evening all

Berona, it was hot and humid here yesterday, and we did have two days forecast to reach 40.

Fortunately that temp has now been downgraded slightly.

I hope that all Aussies had a good day yesterday, and that the Brits are currently enjoying Christmas night.

As others have commented, our Christmas was also strange compared to previous years.

The children came over for breakfast, all they wanted was a bacon buttie, followed by pancakes. I was that busy cooking that I never had any breakfast myself.

Prior to that, I had prepared the chicken and stuffing and put that in the oven and seemed to spend most of the morning washing up.

Lunch was just chiken with a green salad and a potato salad for just HO and myself. We couldn't be bothered with Christmas Crackers, nor did we have any Christmas Pudding.

Part of the afternoon was spent washing up again!!

In the evening we went to my daughter's partner's parents who had put on a huge seafood meal (despite having had a huge lunch themselves!).

I didn't have anything except about nine of the most succculent oysters I have ever tasted. I only like my oysters raw, and even after several glasses of wine, the fresh 'sea' taste from the oysters was still there.

Ironically, for me, I think that that is what I will remember about this particular Christmas.

Good evening Linda

You snuck on whilst I was posting.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I hope that your day is still going well and that your OH is feeling better and that you and your family are having an enjoyable evening

Tecwyn Report 25 Dec 2009 22:09

Hi Everyone,

Well, that's nearly it.

Berona I'm pleased that you enjoyed yesterday with the family, and are enjoying the peace today - make the most of it.
Good to see you Diane, was beginning to wonder about you, anyway glad you enjoyed your afternoon with your grand daughter and son.
Linda I expect your son is with you now, hope he's not already in the garden erecting the worm farm, but doesn't sound as though OH is quite up to that at the moment. Good that he managed some lunch though.

We too had a quiet Christmas Day, just the two of us, but enjoyable. It is a bit strange with just the two of you at the table, when for many years there was always company. I still insist on making something of an occassion of it though, and set the table to the same standard we have always done, including candles etc.
As the Duchess only had one glass of wine, I was obliged to finish the bottle......followed by a couple of large G &Ts, ice and lemon. Very nice.

Tec, Merry Christmas to you and the Duchess

I must admit that following the consumption of a nice bottle of red, I ended the evening with a couple of Brandies....very civilised.

It seems that may of us are having, or have had, a rather different Christmas from previous years

I think that next year I may just opt for a cheese sandwich with pickled onions!

Good Morning Allan,

I seem to have posted over you - slow typing.

Glad you enjoyed the oysters - I only ever tried them once, and wasn't keen, so have avoided them ever since.
You also seemed to have had a strange Christmas Day, sorry about all that washing up - I've done my fair share of that today too.

I think that next Christmas everyone on this thread should get together for a Christmas "meet" wouldn't that be a Christmas to remember - somewhere warm, but not too warm.
Should I win that lottery you would all be my guests - wishful thinking.

Thank you Allan,

There's much to be said for a cheese sandwich and pickled onions.

Allan Report 25 Dec 2009 22:31

Tec, what a wonderful thought.

I was going for the sympathy vote regards the washing up!

I can't really complain as in previous years it has always been OH who has had to do the majority of the tidying up.

This year, apart from the green salad, I've done most of the preparation and cooking. I must say that I enjoyed that part

Diane, Merry Christmas to you.

I hope that despite the current family rift that you have had an enjoyable Christmas with your son and granddaughter.

I don't know about New Year's Resolutions, I have that many bad habits that it is hard to choose which one to give up!

I trust the weather behaved itself!

Diane Report 25 Dec 2009 22:59

Hi Allan
yes I did enjoy today with grand-daughter and son, just pity about having to work lol.
The weather today was fine but it was a different story on Wednesday night, we had a very heavy snow fall and I was out in it when it first started in the evening, it was lovely but not as nice thursday morning going to work. It was nearly all gone by this afternoon as the temperature rose to 5 and the sun melted most of the snow.
