Hi Diane,
Sorry you were kept awake last night - that's tough when you have to turn out early for work. Hope things are quieter for you tonight. Think I'll pass on the Brylcreme - last used it in about 1960 - ugh.

I think my daughter might come over towards the end of the week, they lead such busy lives - their Christmas gifts are still under the tree, but we were giving them money this year anyway, because we were'nt able to do much Christmas shopping. I'll just post it to them if they don't come.

The Duchess is watching Cranford - strange ladies in strange hats.

Hi Berona, glad to see you are having decent rain for a change ( can't believe I'm saying that ) after the rain that we have had in some part's of the UK recently. As for my delightful neighbour's ( not ) I have been down that path and got nowhere with it, contacted the houseing Association and made a complaint as he who is living there is the Tennant's son and she is living elsewhere. I told this to the houseing and they spoke to the tennant and she denie's that she is not there, cut a long story short, the houseing say it is her word against mine and unless other tennant's complain there is nothing they can do. What a waste of time it has all been even though I have also rang the police on a couple of accasion's and had them speak tp her son. The thing that really annoy's me is her son never lived with her when she was there, he only moved in when she moved out.

Tec I was just about to post that I'm disappearing for a while to watch that very programme, so I will speak to you all after it has finished.

Good Morning Berona,

I expect your proper rain is most welcome really, if not exactly seasonal. Hopefully it will reduce the risk of bush fires if it falls in the right areas.
Only one portion of cheesecake left now - unfortunately I've had to eat the whole thing myself as the Duchess isn't allowed such things

Good morning/evening friends.

Tec - I never thought of that. Of course I'll need a red handbag. My OH won't thank you for reminding me:-)) Lemon cheesecake sounds nice. We have one - unopened - with a toffee-like topping.

Berona - we have serious rain here. Which is good although it's been going on for a few days. Not so good for my daughter who is camping with the children at the moment. Although as she says - if it continues they'll just pack up and come home. I too worry about the young ones on the road. The road toll is way too high.

Diane – I’m so sorry you’ve had a nasty message from your son. He timed it well for maximum hurt. It’s always worse at Christmas.

I do hope Allan and family will be ok. The temperature is going to be high in Western Australia for the next couple of days and they have been graded “catastrophic” as far as bush-fires are concerned. As I don’t know exactly where Allan is I don’t know if this will affect him. However my heart goes out to all who are in bush-fire areas. I worry about Carole and Mick from the Bush. Of course being Australia we also have some areas getting ready for flooding.

Tec - I just read out your description of Cranford and OH laughed. He said that is exactly what he thinks. The one saving grace is Judy Dench.

Good Morning Sue,

The three Cranford ladies were just sitting around a table chatting - why did I think of Berona, Linda, and you?.........:))

Sorry Sue - I have a mental imagination.

Of course you must have a red handbag now, and a large red hat,
power dressing..........

Tec - you cheeky man!! I've just read that out to OH and he nearly choked on his coffee. I'll think of something to wipe that grin off his face:-))

Good morning/evening to all

Another hot day forecast today....40c for Perth, which means about 38c here although at those temps there is not much to distinguish between them.

Apart from our walk over to the local shopping centre we have avoided the shops like the plague.

Diane, I thought that I could get by with very little sleep but your schedule would have me staying in bed after the second day! I just don't know how you do it.

Those in Oz may have heard this, but John Dee, the founder of Planet Ark, was urging Aussies to eat leftoversfollowing Christmas as it was estimated the $7 million dollar's worth of edible food would be thrown out by Australians following Christmas Day.

The last of our 'leftovers' will today be used for a soup. The stock is already made.

Morning everyone,

Oh Diane what are we going to do with your neighbours - maybe Berona can come up with some ideas on how to bump them off without anyone suspecting it was you - bit expensive hiring an assassin. Seriously though it cannot go on - ear plugs - wait till you know they are asleep and start up a cacophony of loud music. My OH once got annoyed with the bloke a couple of doors up from us and across the road with all their shennagans late at night. So next morning he put the speakers out on the front verandah and played Amazing Grace at full whack, whilst they were sleeping it off. Luckily our other neighbours were amused and it was a case of Good on ya mate.

Like the sound of your shoes being such a bargain - that will allow you to spend more on that handbag. Very Smart Sue.

Well tis silly season here and traffic patrol is on full alert as everyone heads off to the beach/bach/holiday home etc. We were given the top ten roads to avoid in the North Island in the news last night - but I fell asleep and missed them. (all these late rehearsals at panto must've exhausted me) .

Cheers
P. xx

good for him.

Heaven forbid if we threw out left overs - they are often the best part - especially left over potatoes - add them to a bit of this and that and make a hash.

Speaking of Judy Dench - I was looking at recent photos and I do believe that both she and Helen Mirren have had face lifts of some sort - either that or damn good airbrushing on the photographs. Judy Dench is the saving grace in quite a few films/plays.
Really enjoyed her portrayal along with Cate Blanchett (another very talented Aussie) in Notes on a Scandal.

Good Morning Allan,
Good Morning Perse,

Perse - Are you off to the beach today then, with your bucket and spade?

Allan, Regarding waste food - a similar appeal was on radio here the other day. Apparently £60 million pounds worth of food is thrown away here over Christmas, not counting the vast amount thrown out by supermarkets every day because stuff is past its sell by date. The £60 million equates to £1 per head of population.........

Hello Perse.

How are you?

Right now I'm feeling rather deflated following Christmas and next year I may just crawl away and hibernate.

The only saving grace is that I've managed to catch up on my reading.

I've re-read a couple of Peter Tinniswood Books about the Brandon Family and will soon start on the latest Terry Pratchett book "Unseen Academicals"

Persephone Report 27 Dec 2009 22:08

I steer clear of the beach Tec.
Must've been the only one at Cronulla once wearing a dress.
I have inherited - my Scottish ancestry pale/fair complexion... was a redhead - bits of white in there now and the red has faded (wouldn't match Sue's shoes.)
When I was marching I would go out every weekend get burnt - even my lips would crack and by Friday I would just be coming right again and then back out in the sun on the weekend. Never did the sunblock routine in those days. If it was a cold day out in my short skirt my legs would take on a mauve hue. Thinking about it now - sounds quite daft.

Allan Report 27 Dec 2009 22:13

Perse, we learnt our lesso about avoiding the sun after moving down to Bunbury.

Whilst in the Goldfields (very early 1980's) we encouraged the children to play outside. No hats, no blockout.

When my daughter was about nineteen, she had to have 17 moles removed from her back!

Persey - I love the movie Notes on a Scandal. Judy Dench is so wicked:-) I've just recently watched a move with Judy Dench and Maggie Smith called Ladies in Lavender. It's set just before the break out of WW11 and is a lovely story.

Leftovers?? We don't really have a lot of leftovers because we eat them:-)) The ham goes quickly. I don't buy enough turkey to last forever and leftover salads and stuff are eaten on Boxing Day. We don't have a lot of sweets. OH is the only one who like Christmas pudding so I just buy him a couple of small ones. The only thing I have in abundance is biscuits - loads and loads of shortbread:-))

Thank you Allan - we'll just take stacks of books - heaven.

Perse, My OH is the same colouring as you. She had fabulous red hair years ago, now gone brown, very little grey, people ask her what she colours her hair with, but she never has, not once. She was never able to take the sun for long periods - not much chance over here anyway lol
