Hello Persey, Sue and all:-))

Happy Valentines day everyone, isn't Allan sweet wishing the ladies a happy valentines day?
My hubby is also very sweet on valentines day, I got some perfume and a lovely card - I gave him a box of chocolates, he loves sweets:-))

When you are done with your rain Sue, send it on to Berona - she wants some too:-))
Thanks for letting us know about Diane and Alison, I hope we hear something soon.

I am amazed at how green everything is down here after all our rain, usually this time of year its all brown and dry.

Hello, lovely lady - I've missed talking to you:-)) Everything is green and lush here including the weeds. OH is complaining about how fast the grass is growing. We're never happy - we needed the rain now we've had enough. I worry about the family out on the roads. I hope you're enjoying the book I sent you - it's interesting reading. Please hang on to it for as long as you like.

Hello Sue:-))

I know what you mean when you say you worry about the family on the roads, its very dangerous when for so long we haven't had rain, then suddenly we get bucket loads. The other day I was besides myself with worry over my son, thank god he came home safe:-))

Thanks again for the book you sent me, I'm almost finished it:-)) There are some parts in the book that reminded me of my dad and some of the things he used to say, also when they were talking about using a sheep's bladder for a football, I remember my father doing that for my brothers:-))

So this is where you all are! Good evening to you. Yes, you can send some of the rain up here, Sue. We do have a little. It has been dry all day, but has only started to rain lightly in the last few minutes. Probably won't last long. Still not enough to water the plants.

Notice how I worry about the plants? Well, not really - it's just ME having to water them!

Humidity has been up in the nineties to-day - and feels like it!!

Hello Berona:-))

Sue's going to pass the rain to you:-))

I hope you have had a lovely if hot day today. Has it made much difference in the heat since you had your insulation re-done?

Berona

Berona Report 14 Feb 2010 08:47

It's hard to say Carole. I had to get them back to do the garage because it opens into the main living rooms (and was quoted for). Took them about three minutes to do the job and the original job was done in record time too. I'm surprised that I can hear the rain on the roof (but haven't had much practice at that). In my previous house, I couldn't hear the rain once I had the batts installed and I suppose I expected it to be like that. It has been a little cooler since it was done, but then, the temperatures have been a little less too. I might be able to judge better when the winter comes around. I really don't mind the heat much, but I'm an expert on feeling the cold!

I can't believe you have had so little rain, Berona. It's been teeming here all weekend with some really big downpours this afternoon. At least we can see the mountains this evening.

I've been reading all afternoon and really quite fed up with the weather as I had things in the garden that I had planned to do. This next week promises to be a busy one so I hoped to get in front before the week started.

SueMaid Report 14 Feb 2010 20:28

Hi, Lynda. We exchanged cards, stared at the pouring rain, ventured out after lunch to stock up on groceries, then came home, sat on the verandah and stared at the pouring rain. I can't take anymore excitement so will relax most of today:-)) What about you?

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Feb 2010 20:38

About as exciting as yours.
Exchanged cards, breakfast in bed for me, just a normal Sunday.
I then had a lovely long bath, I haven't had one for a couple of weeks (before anyone jumps in, I do shower morning and evening), but you can't beat a relaxing bubble bath.
We then went for a long walk because it was a lovely sunny day, but really cold at the same time.
I then spoilt it by doing some house work,you can't have a day of all pleasure after all

Awake nice and early this morning to make a good start to the week :)) Have class today .

My oldest son has to be in school an hour earlier due outdoor recreation that he has on and I need to fit in some shopping after depositing him...lol.

Youngest is starting swimming lessons today also and he dislikes going I too remember going to swimming lessons with school and felt the same way so I know how he feels!!

There has been some talk here about the driving age being lifted what do you all think about the subject?

I did some housework too because I think my week will be busy so I thought I'd get in front but with all the rain we're having it's pointless trying to do floors.

Hello Janet - nice to see you:-))

I'm concerned about the number of young people who are dying on our roads but I'm also wondering if it will help if we put up the age of driving to say 21. At 18 a lot of young people are working or at uni and I'm thinking that it puts quite a burden on parents such as yourself trying to get young ones to work. Maybe 'driver education" is the thing as it appears speed is the problem. I see so many young people, mostly boys, driving really powerful cars. When my lot were that age they could only afford old cars.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Feb 2010 20:50

Hello Janet. The problem is that young men have most of the accidents,so that makes everyone else's insurance more expensive. The insurance for youngsters here is phenomenally expensive, they can usually only afford to be included on the family car rather than having their own insurance

Janetx

Janetx Report 14 Feb 2010 20:51

~~~~Sue, I am thinking that maybe lifting the age to 18 then the drinking age to 21 may be effective. The kids of today seem way less mature than the kids of ten or more years ago. They can now go for their learners at 16 way too young in my opinion. Also putting in place that they are not authorized to drive powerful cars either their own or someone else s car.
SueMaid
SueMaid Report 14 Feb 2010 20:53
I'm dopey this morning:-)) Of course they can go on a learner's permit at 16 and I agree that's way too young. I would like to see the drinking age go up to 21. It was when I was that age.
Janetx Report 14 Feb 2010 21:00
Hiya Linda. Not sure about the insurance for the young drivers here but I would think that it would be higher than the parents who have been driving for longer. What age are they able to get the permits there?
Now I just need a seat in parliament time I would be okay :))))
LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Feb 2010 21:17
You can get a provisional license when you are seventeen, which means you can only drive with a qualified driver in the car with you and you have to have learner plates on the car. You then have to take a written theory test,once you pass that you can apply for your road test
Allan
Allan Report 14 Feb 2010 21:32
Good morning to Sue and Janet and good evening to Linda
Regarding Driving Licences, I think that part of the problem is that once young people obtain their full licence they think that they can "drive" a car whereas, in reality, they only have a very basic knowledge of how to handle the vehicle.
For whatever reason there also (at least in Oz) seems to be the attitude with some of the young ones that they need big powerful cars (compensating for smething else in the case of the males??)
When I first passed my test in the UK (after at least 12 months of lessons from my father) I looke for the cheapest car I could find which was a clapped out minivan sometimes incapable of running let alone speeding!
