Hello Carole

Yes I do realise that this response is nearly two hours after your post and that it is nearly midnight in the Eastern States.

I was out this evening and have only just returned

Allan,
Stop peeping round the door, and come in, please close the door behind you, there's a draught.

Carole,
There were a few tears at the wedding - not mine - and I always have to supress a fit of the giggles. One lady had a millinery "creation" on her head, that looked like she was wearing a dead tropical bird. Things like that set me off, because I have a strange sense of humour.

Your comment about how "church-y" people were in the past made me think of all the chapels built in the 19th Century in the Welsh villages. I know of one village, predominately built for quarry workers, that has at least seven huge chapels. It seems to me that as a chapel was built, it had to be bigger and more impressive than the last. Some are architectural masterpieces, with huge Corinthian columns at the entrance, and the decoration a tribute to the stone masons of the day.
The inside furnishings are just as impressive, being in pine or mahogany, and usually a vast organ.

These chapels were built from public subscription via the congregation. Sometimes there was a local benefactor, land or mine/quarry owner that gave generously towards the cost.

Now most of these place are closed, and sit empty, or converted into some other use. Very often these days only one small and more manageable chapel still functions to attend the needs of the faithful.

Being interested in architecture, I always marvel at work and skill that went into the building of 19th Century churches and chapels.

Sorry, Tec, I thought that the draught was beer not wind: although in my case one does lead to the other.

I can't go out on a windy day without wanting to sink a pint!

Good Morning Berona,
Good Morning Allan,

Hope you are both in the pink this morning?

I was beginning to think everyone had abandoned the thread, we have so many missing - you don't think they've all snuck off somewhere without us do you?

Hello, everyone. I won't be staying long as I'm feeling unwell:-( I feel like I'm whining but the cold that seemed to be going away has now gone to my chest and I think a visit to the doctor is in order - so I'm off this morning.

Tec - the wedding sounds wonderful. I so pleased that our Duchess was well enough to attend as it sounds like she had a great time catching up with rellies. What nicer place than at a family wedding.

Take care all and I'll catch up with you later.

Sue xx

Good Morning Sue,
Sorry that you are still unwell. Good idea to get to the doctor, especially with a bad chest. Maybe you need antibiotics to clear it up.
Take care Sue.

Sue, I need to have words with you, you have transmitted your virus via the thread. i ache all over and feel generally ill.
I do hope that this is an English Bug and not Mexican swine flu.

I am so glad that you enjoyed the wedding Tec, or more to the point that the Duchess did because I know how difficult it is for her to get out for long.

I was very impressed by the name of your tailor, I never had you down as such a follower of fashion

Good evening Tec - good morning Sue and Allan. Sue - sorry you are not feeling well - get to the doc and into the antibiotics as soon as possible.

I have been here for quite a while, but because I had to go through to page three to find the thread, I became waylaid on the way through. Hope you gents are both well - as too, are your OH's?

Where are the other ladies?

Oops - sorry Linda - didn't see you there. Good evening to you.

Hi Linda,
I'm sorry that you are also unwell - you should be in bed being spoilt with peeled grapes, a nice bottle of red, and chocolates. Anyway, I hope that you feel much better tomorrow.

As for my sartorial elegance, I have a very well stocked wardrobe, but as I now live in a rustic area, I have gone rustic too, so things don't often get an airing these days.
One looks very odd watching sheep in an expensive suit.

Yes, OH really enjoyed herself, it did her good to get out and chat to her relatives.

Tec - you are making me laugh again. The thought of you standing there watching sheep - in a suit - just cracks me up! About the same as imagining you escorting the duchess into the church for the wedding - in your safari suit - walking past the others in top hats and tails!

I know what you mean about the clothes Tec. I have a wardrobe full of smart clothes from when I worked. I now just mainly wear jeans and fleece tops
