I'm glad the meeting went well, and it must be comforting to know you have legal advice. I suppose now that the lid is off that can of worms, then legal obligations are inevitable. You are safe in the knowledge that you've done everything in a responsible and proffessional way.
It is unfortunate that this has cropped up, on top of your other responsibilities, but try not to let it get at you. I once had to handle a situation that was very delicate, and sensitive, and potentially much more serious than your situation, but despite my worrying, it was resolved in the end. Yours will be too.

Thank you, Tec. I've been feeling down about all this. I know this has to be sorted but it doesn't mean I'm enjoying it. I will undoubtably be an ogre in some people's eyes but I know we're right.

I hope that you feel better soon Sue, but I must take you to task. Valentines day is not just for ther young, it is for the young at heart as well.

CC, Berona is an ace knitter, she made Tec and Allan lovely night caps. If you ask her nicely, I m sure that she will make some socks for you.

Psst. Tec has been having us on, he lives in a village full of millionaires and is secretly-one of them

edit
by one of them, I mean a millionaire not something else.....

Allan Report 12 Feb 2010 21:54

Good morning/evening all

Sue, better to be told by your Solicitor that you have legal obligations rather than an outside Auditor actually reprimanding you for not taking any sort of action. I realise that you have been worried about this since it first cropped up, but as Tec says, you have done everything by the book. Sorry that you have a cold on top of every thing else!

Tec, I hope that both the weather and Mrs Tec hold up for the wedding. I also have to eat at regular times and am often berated by my family for 'always thinking about food'. One of the reasons that I stopped going out socially when I was working at least for formal meals was that by the time everyone had left the pub and assembled at the Restaurant, and then ordered a meal it would be 9.00 or 10.00 at night before it was served. I got fed up with the negative responses from the Restaurants when I asked to order before the rest of the group arrived.

I was fine at those more laid back plcaes where you could order as soon as you arrived and be served straight away.

CC not much luck with the apprentices but I did find two fantastic web sites, one relating to the History of London with some records going back to the 1300's, and one about the history of Manchester, which was my home town.

Good evening Linda

I'm glad that you clarified your comment about Tec, otherwise I might have felt a bit uncomfortable in my maids uniform, and not sure whether or not to shave my legs!

Hello, Linda and Allan. Sorry Linda - I should have phrased my sentence better. Of course Valentine's Day is for anyone who feels inclined to celebrate it:-))

Allan - it was a bit scary yesterday but it cleared up a lot of doubt. The main one being whether we actually had legitimate concerns. The solicitor assured us that we do. Apparently we have a "fiduciary duty" to our members and donors:-))

Berona Report 12 Feb 2010 22:26

Good evening and good morning everyone. Sorry I'm late but had 'broken sleep' again. I sleep for about 2 to 3 hours, then toss around until I get fed up with myself, so I make a cuppa and read for an hour - then settle down again and sleep later than I want to!

Nevertheless, I'm here. We had a couple of useless showers last night and it's dull but humid now.

Sue I knew you were doing everything right and I'm glad you have been reassured of that. You haven't allowed yourself to get run-down with the worry of it, have you? What you are suffering to-day might be reaction to it.
I know what you mean about it not being over yet and you will get a few black looks - but I'm sure you have the support of the right people.

Allan Report 12 Feb 2010 22:28

Sue here in WA it is now mandatory that any public official who becomes aware of any form of corruption has to report it to the ACCC. If they don't, then they are also guilty of an offense. That is why I was originally concerned, when you raised the issue.

CC regarding those sites I mentioned, their was a fascinating piece in the Manchester one about a man called Patrick Melody who was supposed to have been involved with the 'Manchester Martyrs'

These were part of a larger group of Fennians who attacked a prison coach in Manchester in 1867 to release two of their leaders. In the course of the attack a Police Sgt was killed.

The following gives an account of his involvement, but what caught my eye is the he was a coach trimmer and eventually moved to the USA. Needless to say the dates are all wrong for it to have anything to do with my Grandfather's missing early years, but for a second I wondered.....

927 Patrick Melody. Offence and Where Committed: Having on the 18th September 1867 feloniously wilfully & with malice aforethought killed & murdered one Charles Brett at Manchester. Sentence: Death. Commuted to Penal Servitude for life. Age: 24. Ht: 5ft 9ins. Complexion, Hair, Eyes: Fresh, Sandy, Grey. Occupation: Coach Trimmer. Where Born: City of Dublin. Last or Usual Address: 161 Stanhope St, Hampstead Road, London. Religion: RC. Reading and Writing: Imp. Wt In: 11st 4lbs. Wt Out: 11st 0. Marks etc: Scar top of right thumb. Removed to Millbank April 1st 1868.
Thompson was arrested on 29th November 1867 at London Rd Railway Station. He was found in possession of forty five revolvers. These revolvers were linked to some of those that were found after the attack on the prison van in Hyde Rd. William Hogan, a Birmingham man was charged with being an accessory before the fact, but he was acquitted in the Magistrates' court. Thompson was also known as Patrick Lennan.
In mid February the following year Patrick Melody was arrested in London and subsequently tried for the murder of Charles Brett. His name does not feature in the events leading up to the main trial. At his trial he was identified by one of the women prisoners, Emma Halliday, also in the van carrying Kelly and Deasey, as being one of the participants of the attack.
An article in the New York Times (June 18th 1905) states that Melody served 11 years and was then pardoned in return for going to America and not returning to Britain for 20 years. The reason for the article...he was trying to commit suicide in a fountain in Madison Square. The New York Times also carried an earlier article about him dating from December 10th 1896. He was found to be in the Chicago poorhouse and it was reported that he "might have come into a smug fortune in Dublin"...and "had inherited a coach factory at 13 Woodkay St, Dublin and seven dwelling house from his uncle John Melody".
Condon and Melody were given Free Pardons in 1878. Thomson, his real name was Daniel Darragh, was sent to Portland Gaol. He was described as being "delicate in health". This man died in gaol June 28th 1870 and by some is regarded the fourth Manchester Martyr. In an item in The Irish Times it is reported that the body of Darragh was escorted back to Ballycastle, County Antrim by William Hogan.

Good Evening Linda,

Are you casting aspertions on my bank balance, as well as my sexuality?
I do have friends in both camps - excuse the pun - but have never yet met a gay millionaire.
Anyway, I do not live in a village full of millionaires - at least 393 of us are not.

Good Morning Allan,

Not everyone appreciates that diabetics need to eat on time, not the amount of food, but the regular frequency. OH needs her regular meals on time, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and needs something like a digestive biscuit and a glass of milk in between, otherwise she is quickly in trouble.

Berona Report 12 Feb 2010 22:33

At the risk of being 'jumped on', I'm going to say I will be glad when Valentine's Day is over. All week long, I have heard radio commercials saying "don't leave it until the week-end, send your gift to your Valentine on Friday - to their place of work - so that their friends can see it".

This has annoyed me, because when I was working at a very big place, we noticed that the young girls in one particular department were receiving bouquets all day long. When I spoke to their supervisor, she told me that she had caught them ringing through the orders "sending them to themselves" - with each one going one better than the one before!
They were spending all their wages on out-doing each other.

Valentine's Day was known, but not commercialised when I was young and we didn't celebrate it. My, how it's changed over the years!

Allan - what an interesting article you posted. I enjoy reading anything like that. Yes, we've been informed that it is an offence not to report any criminal activity within an organisation. We thought that but this was clarified by the solicitor.

Berona - is it the heat that has kept you awake. Hope you have a quiet relaxing day today. It should be cooler. Yes I do think I have been letting this problem get me down but I've felt more relaxed the last few days so maybe that's when you are more open to feeling off colour.

I've been a bit naughty on the boards having some fun. Good way to start the day:-))

Good Morning Berona,

Sorry you had such a restless night, perhaps you can take a bit of a rest today?

Oh dear.............

The thought has occurred to me, that were I to turn up at Linda's, or Sue's door bearing huge bouquets, and offering them out to breakfast, I could end up with a black eye for my trouble.

I would never take advantage of a married lady in that way, especially if their husbands were bigger than me
