Good morning/evening:-))

That's dreadful, Diane. It surely can't go on and I'm sure it can't be good for your health. As Linda says is there someone you can stay with for a couple of days just to get a good sleep.

hello Sue, go on then tell me all about your heat.......

SueMaid Report 8 Jan 2010 20:32

Well I wasn't going to rub it in Linda but.......it was 27 degs. yesterday with just a light breeze and sunshine after an overcast start to the day. Today is supposed to get to 31 degs. and sunny. A bit too warm for me but I'm not complaining.

I looked at the satellite photo of Britain yesterday and I have to say it looked scary. Completely white. Another photo showed London as a dark shadow covered in white. Although we've been in touch with family making sure everyone is ok OH was quite shaken by the photo. My cousin has taken my elderly uncle to stay with him and he's now hoping he'll decide to live with them. Uncle lives near Leeds and my cousin in High Wycombe. He said the drive up to Leeds and back was horrendous but there's no-one there to look after my uncle.

It is worrying when the elderly are on their own. I was just thinking today that I would have been struggling to drive to see mum. We haven't taken the car out since our little incident on Monday. London isn't too bad at the moment. My son lives in Teddington and they have only had one lot of snow, but they are forecast for loads tomorrow

Diane Report 8 Jan 2010 20:39

Hi Linda and Sue
The only person close to work I could stay with is my employer, and as much as we get on I couldn't. It would mean me having to go outside every time I wanted to have a smoke and it would be like working 24/7.
I have spoken to the enviromental health dept of the council and they are going to set up a noise monitor and are not very pleased with the way the houseing have handled thing's up to now, in fact the women I spoke to today say's when she got in touch with the houseing officer who is handling it all she said to me she doesn't seem interested doe's she to which I replied not the last time I spoke to her she seemed to imply unless I could prove other wise then it was the upstair's tennant's word against mine. So I have left it with the Council to sort the houseing out for me as they seem quite determined to get the whole matter taken seriously.

I hope that the council do try to sort your problem out, although it does seem to be difficult and nothing will happen quickly.

Well I have looked all over, but I can't find you,so I am closing down for the night. See you tomorrow.

Persephone Report 8 Jan 2010 22:21

Well Linda is in bed, Pat came on yesterday morning (think I got that right) then disappeared - you were talking of BO Diane - think it's me with all this heat it is sending vapours over to you lot. Every time I answer someone they vanish.
I do worry about you Brits and that includes the Welshman - on our news last night there was talk of some of Britain being without power and that sounds horrendous in the freezing cold.
I have decided that I will not winge about NZ and the humidity anymore - as even if we do get 4 seasons in one day here in NZ (spent most of yesterday putting on a jacket and taking it off again a half-an-hour later then a rain jacket a bit later on then the sun came belting out and started all over again with dressing and undressing) at least here in Auckland we don't have Aussies extreme heat nor your extreme cold. Though the South Island can get fairly brass monkeys in the winter... I know!!
Being fair I am actually more of a winter person - I always figure I can put more clothes on then take them all off in the heat ( I believe Sue does the au naturelle)

Hey! Don't go away! I just got here! Good evening/morning everyone.

So, we're in for a hot one, are we Sue? Haven't looked yet, but I can see sunshine and clear sky. Oops, sorry Poms. Don't mean to be facetious. Just wondering what I need to get done before hibernating once I switch on the aircon. I'm very decided upon which I prefer - snow or sun. I'll stay right here.

Persephone Report 8 Jan 2010 22:34

Hello Berona

You are sounding a lot more perky, so glad you have got over those cramps and highland flinging, you will be wanting a kilt and a set of swords next... maybe a present for your 40th Birhday which must be later this year???

Think I have got that right...

I hope Linda gets Tec's tree sorted out and maybe finds him a few more baubles for it.

Hello Perse. Almost right. I'll be 39 again this year. Never get past 39!
I finally switched on the treadmill yesterday - did about a dozen steps, and switched it off again. From the hips up, I feel as good as an 18 year old, but once I try to get around, I don't get much done before the legs remind me of how old THEY are! I keep trying, but don't want to overdo it until I see the doc next week and get the OK from her.

Anyone see Tec? I must have missed him. Hope all is well with everyone.

I'm late - I'm late - for a very important date,

It's not the white rabbit, nor Alice in Wonderland,

It's me in Lapland

Persephone Report 8 Jan 2010 22:51

I came on on the bottom of page 712 and must've posted about the same time as you. Linda had gone to bed and Diane has been having problems with her internet. Poor love she does have a hard time of it at her place.

Tec not been on at all - today - maybe he is having problems with icy pipes etc think he will need more than a scarf and beanie to keep him warm.

Take care

To anyone that pops in later today Aussies - a hi from me.

Oh hello Tec -

What a coincidence - did you know I am playing the White Rabbit in the Easter Egg hunt on the other thread with Allan as Long John Silver ?

You talk to Berona and I will catch you tomorrow.
Nearly time for your bed.

Well I don't mind feeding the birds because they are starving - but when polar bears and penguins turn up at the back door, I know things are getting serious.

Drove the ten miles to the supermarket through the winter wonderland, negotiating black ice on the roads.
Huge gaps on the shelves, and notices saying that due to adverse weather conditions deliveries could be delayed, or not arrive at all.
No bread for anyone who wanted it, and the last few cartons of milk.

Petrol has gone to £5-18p a gallon, £1-15p a litre, or $10-36c Aussie.

Temp recorded at - 14 near here last night, and -23 in Scotland,
more bad weather expected this weekend with a strong wind that will cause drifting - anyone coming for a holiday?

Tec

Berona

Berona Report 8 Jan 2010 23:39

Tec - I don't know how you cope with it! How does it affect the duchess? It would be bad enough having to drive in those conditions to get to the supermarket, etc. - but then to find that they don't have the supplies for the same reason, would be very disappointing.
