That's confusing Allan, a Coe married to a Coe, but my OH had the same thing, a Kelly married to a Kelly, but not related. Her Irish ancestors came over to work in the North Wales lead mines in around 1785.

Tec, I can be so thick at times (like all the time I'm awake)

In my post to you regarding my Irish Forebears I answered my own question.

Charles Coe only moved in with the Coes of Northwich after the death of his mother.

Charles's parents lived in Manchester so he could well have been related to Annie. I've never gone back further on his parents.

Sorry had to come back

Tec - when I was in the states a lot of people hadn't a clue where New Zealand was - some venturing to say we were up in Newfoundland. Or that we must be Limeys - with our accents.

Blackpool features in a lot of movies too Diane, and was in that program with David Morrisey ( a Liverpuddlian) with I think Sara Parish, David Tennant and the actress who played Toyah in Coro.
We watch a lot of documentarys Diane - and read a lot and have quite a few books on Britain. We also both have the habit of if we come across a place we don't know in a fictional story we go and look it up.

My mother was astounded when I told her my OH wanted an Encylopedia Britannica Atlas for his birthday back when he was in his thirties.

Now must go - and do this crossword which I have not started - and have another coffee.

Diane, When my daughter was away at college in Preston, we used to go up sometimes on a Sunday and take her out for lunch in Southport, or Lytham St. Annes - it's nice up there in the summer.

Bye Perse enjoy your day with your friend

Allan I wasn't surprised that you knew were it was having lived here once but was surprised that Perse knew. I often went to Southport, Ainsdale and Waterloo as a child, my dad who worked as a rep traveling around the country seeing client's for the firm Radio-spare's used to be home at weekend's only so in the summer he would take us for day's out to these place's to give mum a break away from the house as she was on her own all week with 6 of us kid's and needed to get out and away from all type's of house duties.

Just a temporary lull, I am sure Janet,
I have been otherwise engaged today and have just looked in.

I am glad that you had a nice lunch. Sitting on a verandah chatting sounds idyllic. Maybe we could do that on our one day of summer

If Tec looks in,I will try and find the programme.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 11 Jan 2010 20:24

I watched it Tec, you must claim it back,or at least go and stay there.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 11 Jan 2010 20:35

I'm so pleased you watched it Linda, very interesting wasn't it?
What pleased me more than anything was that it is still somebody's home, not just a cold lifeless barn of a place,as so many big houses are.

OH said that she is so pleased I didn't inherit it - she can't keep up with the dusting here. She now understands why I occassionally have grand ideas above my station.
I would love to stay there for a few days to have a good look around. Maybe in the summer all being well.

I should quite definitely live in that house.

Hello everyone - hope you are all well.

I've just been watching the news about the dreadful bushfires in Victoria. I've had an email from Carole and she and family are safe and in no danger. Let's hope it stays that way. I've also had a message from Mick from the Bush and he is also safe at the moment but taking precautions. Very scary.

Tec - that must have been strange looking at your ancestral home on the telly. I'd be putting in a claim for that place - it may rightfully be yours:-))

I'd been thinking about my friend Jean yesterday evening so it was no surprise that I woke just after 2 am thinking about her and hoping that all was going well at her celebration of life. It was at 3 pm your time. How wonderful to leave this world having left such a lot of people who feel privileged to have known you. An incredible legacy.

Good Morning Sue,
I hope you too are well, and recovered fully from your sunstroke.
Glad you've heard from Carole, and Mick, and that they are safe, may they stay safe. Heaven help those that are not so fortunate.

You are right about your friend Jean - what a wonderful legacy to have touched so many people on her journey through life. To be remembered with affection after we are gone is all any of us can hope for, and that all depends on how we have treated others during our stay here.

It was indeed strange to see the house my ancestors had lived in long ago - fascinating history too. I think if I were to reclaim it, then I would really need you all to help to help run it. There were even dungeons, and I thought that would be handy for the Maid with the hairy legs when he steps out of line:))

I am glad the others are safe as well

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 11 Jan 2010 21:22

I would love to help you sort out the house and I'm sure everyone would be too but where would we start. Definately the dungeon because I think the hairy legged maid will give you some trouble. Our Duchess need not worry about the dusting. With us there to muck out the place she would have nothing to do but sit around and look beautiful.

Good evening/morning All

Tec, just so long as there are no dragons in the dungeons!

Sue, I never 'spoke' with Jean, but seeing the comments regarding her on the various Threads made me realise the she was a very special person held in very high esteem by all who knew her. As you say, what a legacy to leave behind.

Janet, my OH and daughter will be going to the Swan Valley to see Tom Jones when he appears as the top of the bill for "A Day on the Green" at Sandalford Winery.

Good evening Linda
